I love that the men who would rather build robot wives than just be decent humans, think that women will be so sad to miss out on them. -
I have always wanted to play Dungeons and Dragons, it just seems like the kind of geeky thing I'd enjoy, sadly 1) the game doesn't seem to be popular here, and 2) it's a group activity so one have to coincide with others interested in playing.@maxalmonte14 there are some single session RPGs that are far less investment in initial time e.g. Fiasco there is no pre-planning required or significant reading of rules.
It might be a way to get an easier teaser of RPGs, before jumping headlong into massive books of D&D and session planning.
Totally understand the apprehension. I also don’t play D&D because of the massive time investment, instead I design small games with my own rules for similar experiences.

So I bought their new edition for the Players Handbook (and plan to buy the other two tomes when they come out).
Incredible artwork and writing so inspiring. Although I got it for inspiration for my own thing.
As others said, lots of online tools to try!

Mythic Quest is very inaccurate in portraying game development, but it has two episodes that make me rewatch it because they blew my mind when I first watched it.@frederic_hein personally I found Ted Lasso to be a really heart warming series about what friendship is.
I am also really enjoying Slow Horses. I like British TV as guns aren’t the solution to everything (although they do make an appearance).
Lessons in Chemistry was wonderful too. Excellent acting and a terribly sad true story.
I haven’t yet tried Severance, but that is on my ‘to watch’ list.

https://bottomfeeder.substack.com/p/how-to-write-a-good-story-that-doesntIn a good world the player becomes the story. Otherwise they are merely an observer (like a reader).
I think this is very evident in Skyrim where a lot of players enjoy the side quests and avoid the main storyline. Because with the side quests you can approach them to your liking. The main story is a railroad.
I had a character in my head, and could act that out when free roaming. The main story clashed with that idea and I couldn’t have known that ahead of time.

I think this article on storytelling hits on why I'm not really enjoying Rings of Power. There are so many disconnected storylines (presumably will connect later), making it seem nonsensical.
It feels like a lot of character development is happening off screen, helping the series feel disconnected.
I like this comment from a reader:
“For video games I almost always find myself much more drawn to good world building instead of a good story.” -
Conservative Leader Pierre #Poilievre will table a motion of non-confidence next Tuesday, September 24 to try and trigger a federal election.@gemelliz same energy as screaming “the spectators can’t wait for the match to end” after you score an early goal.
They never intend to play fair.

Why are these phone AI commercials always asking me to buy a new phone that has AI do things my old ass phone already does easily?@alextecplayz I thought I saw something that these phones have an additional component to handle these local requests? (of course any external requests can easily be cut).
Maybe I’ve completely made that up though? or confused it with a different brand?

Why are these phone AI commercials always asking me to buy a new phone that has AI do things my old ass phone already does easily?@RickiTarr I really really hope the iPhone 16 sales are so catastrophically low that they release a non-AI version.
It might be a big enough brand to actually then push for more AI abandonment. -
Recently YouTube recommended me a video with only 1 or 2 views and I felt so special. Now I get "Pay to Watch" videos recommended and I just want to know: What happened?@drhackenstein oh, they’ve integrated with Paramount+? So presumably in the future you can log in to any streaming service via YouTube.
But yes, I can see why you didn’t even bother clicking on it

We’ve made the hard decision to end our experiment with Mozilla.social and will shut down the Mastodon instance on December 17, 2024.@hisham_hm @mozilla feels a little like this:
I’m not even sure why they can’t maintain an account which simply posts all the stuff they normally would on other platforms. Surely they are using a service that manages cross-platform posting.

As a film aficionado — which probably nobody besides myself consider me to be — I appreciate what came before as much as the modern classics, that being said, if there's a genre I've never been able to get into that'd be Western, and this article perfe...@maxalmonte14 thanks for sharing this article! I’m also not a fan of westerns. This article definitely hits on most of those reasons.
Which is such a shame because I really like trains, desert landscapes and heists.
I never really made the connection with neo western movies though. But it’s very much a straight line and I now better understand why those movies make me so uncomfortable.
In general, any movie with the ‘yellow camera filter’ is pretty suspect
