https://open-ui.org/components/richer-text-fields.explainer/ my "Richer Text Fields" proposals are now available on the Open UI site. I'll be proposing these to browser vendors next week at TPAC - the annual w3 meeting. Hopefully we'll agree to give <input> and <textarea> elements some new superpowers!

@keithamus I love your AbortController pattern for addEventListener in custom elements... do you happen to know if passing `signal` is on the cards for Intersection/Mutation Observer too?@ryantownsend Nothing I've seen to pass signals to those explicitly. Raising an issue to discuss would be a worthwhile.
Less specifically but related; https://github.com/WICG/observable/issues/72 seeks to understand how the `Observable` class (which does take signals) could integrate with the `[M|I|R]*Observer` classes.
Also semi-related: https://github.com/whatwg/dom/issues/1296 aims to encode this pattern as a standard

What's missing from HTML and CSS?@westbrook @ryantownsend @developers I somewhat feel like a platform solution would be very unlikely due to the security implications. It would be a gigantic uphill climb to get anything resembling this. I think a first step is template references (or something) and building up from there. These libraries can perhaps act as a North Star to steer towards, and even if we don’t make it, making them easier to implement can be useful.
