i can see a situation in which someone would like everything to be in one place, for sure. i'm just not that person, i guess?

if i tried to avoid terms of service in 2024, i would never leave the house. haha. and of course mastodon has a terms of service, as does wordpress. it's not like by self-hosting we avoid this stuff. it's more a matter of shades of grey. worse and better platforms, all of which have some good people whom i'm interested in reaching. i press on ️

with the exception of course being mastodon. people click out of here all of the time — the engagement and interaction we see here are wildly healthy. and this translates to the real world too; we have fedi people showing up at almost every show we do these days. including from many miles away from the show. it's a passionate community. love it so much🥹

shannon and i created Threads accounts to check that out. i can see why the people on there like it? if you're coming from Twitter, it's of course much better

but if you're coming from Mastodon ... it is SO DISAPPOINTING. so much posturing and clout-chasing!

i'm giving it time and seeing whether there's a cool and genuine supportive community to be found there like there is here ... but my first impressions are that it's like disney mastodon. safe and shiny and a bit fake
