White-crowned sparrows, like many birds, are named for the details of the male colorway. And while they can't turn about and call them golden-crowned sparrows (another male-colorway-named bird entirely), I feel another name might not have been out of reach? Maybe something after their oft-studied song? Whistlebuzz sparrow? Jumbletrill?
