Hope you can help me point me in a direction of some code/documentation.

I'm thinking of developing a Widget and can't find any information on the context in which a widget lives. The widget I am thinking about developing should show information about the content of the thread/post, so when you are browsing a thread about a specific subject, related articles are shown in a widget.

The widget of course doesn't make any sense in a context outside a thread.

And my problem is that I can't find any information about the context in which the widget is operating.

To avoid the database being filled with the same tag in different cases like tag:NodeBB:topics, tag:nodebb:topics, tag:Nodebb:topics and so on, couldn't we then just add tags in topics.createTags as the tag eg. NodeBB was first created. So even though the users types nodebb we still add the original NodeBB or are the other drawbacks to this.

You are of course right, if I should do this, the tags need to be escaped. Secondly I was thinking along the lines of testing equality of two tags 'nodebb' and 'NodeBB' by comparing them in lower case. So the problem I see there is that if the first added as 'nodebb' then someone come along and creates tag 'NodeBB' then the first tag 'win' so to say even though the second is properly the more correct way.

And then the question. If I where to make this change, and create a PR on Github, are there any chance this is adopted into the code base. Cause we really don't wanna have to patch our version of the forum before production.

tag = tag.trim().toLowerCase();
tag = tag.replace(/[,\/#!$%\^\*;:{}=_`<>'"~()?\|]/g, '');
tag = tag.substr(0, meta.config.maximumTagLength || 15).trim();

These lines create rather simple tags, which are hard to use. We wanna create a set of tags, which the user then can choose from
Eg. "CHR (CHR. HANSEN HOLDING)". I can see that this decision makes it easy to compare tags afterwards. Are there any other reasons for this? Or could this be changed so that tags are saves as they are written?

Cool @termnml the package.json file did the trick.

Maybe that should be mentioned along with the plugin.json file.

I have actually tried this. Both in normal and dev mode. And both with my ID begin nodebb-plugin-plugin-name and just plugin-name. There is no indication in log or in the admin interface that my plugin is recognised.

My directory looks like this:

/nodebb/node_modules/nodebb-plugin-force-tag$ ls
library.js  LICENSE  plugin.json  README.md

And my plugin.json file like this:

I've been trying to write a plugin and have been following the guide by @psychobunny creating a plugin.js and library file. Then I was stuck since I don't know where to put these files.
According to this https://docs.nodebb.org/et/latest/plugins/create.html I should be able to create a directory under /plugins/nodebb-plugin-my-test-plugin/ and then loaded my NodeBB instance with ./nodebb dev. And can't find any indication that my library is loaded, either in the log or in the admin -> plugin interface.

Anyone who can hint what I'm missing.
