It’s trying to find a record label with a publisher that’s willing to sign someone with very limited financial prospects. Even giving up 50%, if there’s no money then 50% of nothing is nothing.

They don’t do distribution, but they work with publishers to collect royalties on their members behalf. They work in partnership with ASCAP which is the US equivalent. Now I have to try and find a publisher who is also a member and willing to accept me. I also need to find out what happens to the album that I just published through Distrokid, if I can transfer it over. Maybe then Apple iTunes Store in Canada will allow its sale including the Tom Petty cover. -

I had joined CAPAC in 1982 but it was disbanded when SOCAN was created in 1990 via the merger of CAPAC & PROCAN. As I’d dropped out of music completely I never really gave it a thought.
Well yesterday I was told I was already a SOCAN member & have spent the past day gaining online access. All my 1982 info is there. Now I just have to figure out how to use them instead of Distrokid going forward.
