Minutes from 2 May 2024 WG Meeting@silverpill @julian obviously my FEP is superior
The problem with FEP-1b12 is that it just formalizes the fundamentally flawed Announce flow. It's flawed because you have to post to what's essentially *your own personal timeline* to later have the post boosted by the group actor. Because of that, your followers can see the group post, as it technically exists outside of the group.
FEP-400e does not have this shortcoming because you create your posts "into" the group to begin with.

So, #Smithereen no longer requires a username when signing up.So, #Smithereen no longer requires a username when signing up. You instead get assigned one automatically, of the form "idXXX" where XXX is the ID for your user record. You can change it later in settings if you wish. Current Mastodon versions handle this change no problem.
The username is only visible in two places:
- The URL of your profile
- When someone mentions you
So it's not very important. Definitely not important enough to be a required field when you register. -

(totally incompatible with the rest of the fediverse, but that's fine I guess)

Another new feature in #Smithereen: bookmarks.Another new feature in #Smithereen: bookmarks. Not like Mastodon ones, but you can now bookmark users and groups, and see all posts you've ever liked. VK had the same thing so why shouldn't I? Your people/groups bookmarks are private and never leave your server.
