How wrong is it to take the PS5 from my kids to play BG3 on the big TV? -
If the Democratic Party is dumb enough to drive AOC out of its ranks, it deserves everything it gets.@jalefkowit It’s The Boomerdämmerung, the immolation of a generation whose parents made huge sacrifices for them so their children cloukdnalso make huge sacrifices for them
They voted to abolish the estate tax but reverse mortgaged everything so they could spend their final years having viagra orgies in the Villages

"I wanted to create the simplest possible Fediverse server which can be used as an educational tool to show how ActivityPub / Mastodon works.@jalefkowit Usually I’m on the same page as you but I can’t tell if you have your tongue in your cheek or you bit it off. Getting “today we teach poodles how to fly” vibes from the introduction

they call it x-86 yet it isn't an ex-architecture, nor has it been 86'd, really bad name imo@atax1a wel if x86 was so great why didn’t they make x87?

"According to Ms.@jalefkowit @clew I’m just a crank but my gut tells the one offense the Democratic Party elite will not tolerate is jumping the line. It’s their big takeaway from the 2008 presidential election and they’d rather give up control of all three branches than let someone win who hasn’t paid their dues

and another thing: im not mad.@jalefkowit @onepict of there is one thing I have noticed over the last four years, it’s that the investors value displays of dominance more than money
“If your company doesn’t squeeze the customers dry, another customer will. So if you don’t make with the squeezing we will find someone else who will”
On the card he’s getting scored on, he’s doing a bang up job

#hamradio #amateurradio folks, how do you do cable management?#hamradio #amateurradio folks, final question for the night:
I want a basic non-portable HF base station transceiver, a beast the size of a stereo receiver/amp with a big old knob on the front. No SDR, maybe a kit, definitely priced under USD 600. An affordable throwback radio, if not in production, at least easy enough to find. An anti Xiegu G90
Does such a thing exist?

#hamradio #amateurradio folks, how do you do cable management?#hamradio #amateurradio folks, related question: is there any tool between a cheap utility knife and a $150 cable preparation tool that works well for stripping LMR400 without cutting into the braided shielding?

#hamradio #amateurradio folks, how do you do cable management?#hamradio #amateurradio folks, how do you do cable management? Your shacks? Just attach the feed line right to the radio? Bulkhead connectors on a box on the wall? BNC patch cables?

Decided to replay “Horizon: Zero Dawn” and my PS5 offered to let me upgrade it to the PS5 version for just $10, which is a tough sell insofar as I have yet to be able to distinguish PS5 graphics from PS4@jalefkowit same marketing strategy as Edge of Tomorrow: a name so inane that they had to call it by the tagline “Live, Die, Repeat” which is still so inane that I stopped watching the movie halfway through and didn’t finish it for ten years
Or maybe it was the D-Day Curse

Decided to replay “Horizon: Zero Dawn” and my PS5 offered to let me upgrade it to the PS5 version for just $10, which is a tough sell insofar as I have yet to be able to distinguish PS5 graphics from PS4@jalefkowit Aside: My brain always tries to read that as “Horizon: Zero Dark Thirty” and locks up, so I don’t know if I’m ever going to play that game. What game?

Glad I bought a PS5, the game console whose marketing slogan is “There Are No Games For The PS5”@jalefkowit takes me back to the PS3 days of “maybe they put another Asteroids clone on the PS store this week”

I have started taking some of my mental health walks along the local boardwalk, because nothing cures depression faster than standing in a winter day on an empty beach staring out at the endless indifferent sea@jalefkowit “Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people’s hats off—then, I account it high time to get to sea as soon as I can”
This is terrible advice

You guys, I have just discovered how much an expert witness gets paid by the hour ($459 on average) and surely this is a mistake.@mattblaze @adamshostack @evacide What drives the hourly rate of expert testimony? The first answer is “that’s what everyone charges” and I’m trying to dig into why.
By comparison, to be a consultant vs salaried, it’s twice as expensive because only half of the work can be billed, so the other half is baked into the rate. What’s baked into the expert testimony rate?

You guys, I have just discovered how much an expert witness gets paid by the hour ($459 on average) and surely this is a mistake.@adamshostack @evacide @mattblaze what about networking, finding clients, and professional development? For plain old consulting I’d plan o spending at least 50% of my time on that and setting a bill rate accordingly. Or is it just a seller’s market?
-
You guys, I have just discovered how much an expert witness gets paid by the hour ($459 on average) and surely this is a mistake.@evacide @mattblaze [doing quick math] hmm that must mean you only bill for about 10% of your time, the rest is to cover prep, research, and networking
