TIL… while researching why my little usb-c rechargeable flashlights didn’t seem to be charging, I discovered that usb-c charging ports require the device to tell the charger the voltage it needs and this requires extra circuitry that companies don’t want to pay for. But usb-a always provides 5v
So if your cheap usb-c device came with a usb-a to usb-c charging cable, there’s a good chance that charging won’t work with a usb-c to usb-c cable.
I feel like this isn’t well known and manufacturers should be required to say the device isn’t true usb-c
