@jon @phanpy I see that they can be easily manipulated, in the same way they can be transparent and useful, as it's the case, at least for me, of phanpy. I acknowledge it needs some technical skills to check the code tho.

I cannot understand the demonization of any other algorithm other than a reverse chronological order.

No one can stay all the time following their timeline. How could we catch up on interesting posts from **profiles we decided to follow**? Curiously, using this feature, I even saw posts of yours in the most boosted posts of my network, that I missed.

@jon I understand some problems the algorithms used in other social media can bring, but is using an algorithm bad per se? I am now using daily @phanpy, and I love the catch-up feature to discover the most shared, liked and discussed posts, based on people I follow. That's just an example of an open source algorithm that can aggregate value to what you want to read.

@chris I don't think Mastodon is prepared for that. I tried to run it for one year on a tiny server, but there were several cache issues. I hope in the near future we will have some good alternative for that - maybe there is already and I just don't know.

@evan I'm quite disappointed to see so many Brazilians migrating to Bluesky. But I don't blame them. I see the logic to be where the crowd is if you don't know the importance of points you raised.

Unfortunately it appears only a few people, as compared to the big tech social media, are aware of it.

It was more disappointing to see people continuing to use x tho.

If I'm reading arguments from developers comparing both protocols, I think it's fair enough to ask. I hope more people can be aware of it. It's easy to follow the trend established by those with money.

@evan congrats! Just a curiosity, is there a comparison with other protocols trying to create an interoperable web? I'm trying to understand why AT Protocol was created. I still need to read some references some people shared here.
