This @system76 device looks rad as hell. Man, I wish this had been out a year ago.

@shellsharks @Techmeme I was thinking out loud about a solution to this and what I came up with was:
- Only allow easy passthrough for domains over a certain age (like a year)
- Add a verification step to the registration of domains through Bluesky
- For non-Bluesky domains, require a one-time domain verification process for a small fee
The domain is useful in certain cases, but the problem is that it alone is weak social proof if you aren’t already known or famous.
Over on Bluesky, I caught a fairly up-close view of the system not working. I didn’t like what I saw.
An apparent extortion scheme lit up Bluesky the other night. It raises some important questions about whether Bluesky is up to the task of moderation.

@killyourfm @jnv You need the secondary partition, alas. But you can more or less ignore it once it’s all set up.
I need to set it up so every Tedium issue is sponsored by another Tedium issue. Just an infinite loop of Tedium self-sponsorship.
No clue how that makes money, but it seems like it’d be at least interesting.
This whole WordPress-has-to-roll-back-all-the-stuff-that-made-everyone-mad situation doesn’t feel like it’s going to do much to rebuild burned bridges.
Maybe we should take the saga for what it is: A sign that one CMS shouldn’t rule online content.

@grammargirl If I remember right, I believe @anildash actually modded his for this purpose.
I otherwise see a ton of good suggestions in this thread that beat me to the punch. Luna display will probably be easiest, though you could always do something like Duet Display if you don’t want to buy hardware.
My suggestion would actually be to look at getting an HDMI capture card. People are doing this to plug in Switches on iPads and I imagine it would work with your old Mac, too.
There’s a Google Project Ara prototype on eBay.
He’s taking it well! https://www.404media.co/wordpress-wp-engine-preliminary-injunction/
Well, that was a giant waste of everyone’s time.
Congrats Matt Mullenweg, all your aggressive actions ended up getting flipped over immediately.
@mattl It was once much more prevalent. Basically it was what most children’s movies were rated as until about the mid-2010s, when PG became more accepted.
When’s the last time you saw a G-rated film in a theater? If the answer to that question is “Toy Story 4,” congratulations—you saw perhaps the last truly successful G-rated film.
Turns out the G rating isn’t used so much anymore. Here’s why:
Based on the sharp decline of the G rating, apparently not. Learn why Hollywood seems to have left the general rating designation behind.

More thoughts on Bluesky & business models. We need social networks with business models akin to Craigslist, where money is intentionally left on the table.
Obviously some broader fediverse lessons to take from this as well.
More thoughts on what Bluesky’s ultimate business model could look like: A modern take on Craigslist, a company that never exploited its users.

@killyourfm I can tell there’s interest, I get the emails from random places, but I never have a place for them. Wanna get on a call sometime and actually talk some of this stuff out?
@killyourfm Hmm, this certainly sounds like something that I would be interested in personally, though you’ve worked closer to that area than I have with your work on Thunderbird.
Kind of weird that the Linux Foundation doesn’t emphasize this kind of work, honestly. It’s strange that I get all my scoops on what’s happening in desktop Linux from Brodie Robertson (I enjoy his channel a lot, I just think it reflects the point you’re getting at).
@killyourfm That’s interesting. I wonder if there’s room for a Linux-specific marketing agency?
@killyourfm And also Red Hat is already a prominent enough customer that Adobe is promoting them on their blog. https://blog.adobe.com/en/publish/2024/10/11/how-adobe-express-helped-red-hat-marketing-ibm-company-achieve-10x-time-savings
If Adobe makes the move to Linux, even money that it’s through RHEL.
@killyourfm And it also helps that Adobe is already in a strategic partnership with Red Hat.

@killyourfm The place where my head went was that Red Hat should strike some sort of deal with Adobe to make RHEL a first-class platform for the Adobe suite. Red Hat is one of the few companies in a position to pull something like that off.
