@chris What you need in an earthquake is for the structure to move with the earth, and not shake apart. I don't think basements are an issue in that regard.

I don't know the party was set up but presumably those involved can take some civil action, if it's even possible to do so.
@chris Parties are Members-only clubs, as someone somewhere recently pointed out. It looks there's not much that has to happen to deregister a party.
