@DirkGutlin @Mastodon I came here to find a Twitter alternative. What I got and the reason I stayed here and on the Fediverse as a whole is that it's much better than what Twitter ever had to offer. And the star button is of the utmost importance. It tells the poster that you liked what they wrote. How is that useless?

Today Mastodon is taking another step towards its founding ideals: independence and non-profit ownership. -
I feel as if most of the people here are genXers.@rubenerd Let's not fall into the trap of generalizations and "not all." Of course when we talk about generational things, "not all." We're talking about general trends. Not all Gen Xers are computer-literate, and not all younger or older generations are not, it's about fractions of these populations and how large these fractions are.

I feel as if most of the people here are genXers.@SeaFury Yes. It's depressing how the older they get the less they're willing to learn from me and instead just want to learn from their (as clueless as them) friends. I guess it's part of growing up.

I feel as if most of the people here are genXers.@SeaFury I just bought a computer to my daughter (it arrived today, it's still in the box) I'll see what I can do. But so far she only cares about Youtube and Line and Instagram (I'll see if I can motivate her and her friends to go to Pixelfed?)

I feel as if most of the people here are genXers.@SeaFury With that being said, I think it's important to "recruit" the younger generations (Z and alpha) into the Fediverse so that they can learn that the internet doesn't have to be the enshittified thing that it has become. (Millennials are, I'm afraid, a lost cause)

I feel as if most of the people here are genXers.@SeaFury Exactly. I'm always baffled when I hear some people say that Mastodon/Fediverse is "too difficult" and then I notice that it's often Millennials saying that. Maybe it is difficult when your idea of computing is turning on a Mac. (I'll die on the hill that Apple share a big share of responsibility in the fact that computer literacy is dying down) And Gen Z grew up with a phone in their hand, so...

I feel as if most of the people here are genXers.@SeaFury I think most of us are Indeed Gen Xers here because it's true that there is a certain degree of computer-literacy needed to easily understand the Fediverse, and it's mostly our generation that is computer-literate. Also, we do remember that the internet wasn't always owned by big companies. Younger generations don't, so they also have trouble understanding the Fediverse.
