Lol Friend Camp is experiencing Mastodon 4.2 for the first time and I immediately squashed the "Post published." modal snackbar that appears when you post something because it looks identical to when you get error messagesLol Friend Camp is experiencing Mastodon 4.2 for the first time and I immediately squashed the "Post published." modal snackbar that appears when you post something via the web interface because it looks identical to when you get error messages. Do people find this useful? Should I remove it from Hometown's next release too? Right now it's just a friend camp tweak

This is going to result in a forced upgrade to Mastodon v4.2.x for everyone who wants the security features (since v4.0 isn't supported by the Mastod...I should mention a major change is that I can no longer maintain the custom web mobile UI with the retractable sidebar. It diverged too much from Mastodon and was really problematic to maintain. I'm going to see if I can do it "smarter" for a future release because tbh I really miss it but for now the mobile web interface is going to be more cluttered than #Hometown users are used to. Sorry about that.

This will bring a lot of changes to Hometown. I've done my best to maintain the quality of our pastel themes, and local posting still works, and of course exclusive lists are now part of main Mastodon. More in the docs tomorrow!

Across those hundreds of messages, I got four total responses. [...] While I do not usually have a 100 percent response rate, I get a response most of the time."

Facebook’s AI Spam Isn’t the ‘Dead Internet’: It’s the Zombie Internet
Facebook is the zombie internet, where a mix of bots, humans, and accounts that were once humans but aren’t anymore interact to form a disastrous website where there is little social connection at all.

So I just typed THE END at the end of the last book to the project that emerged from a little one-shot story I began writing in 1998, and it turns out that The Laundry Files/New Management runs to just over 1,710,000 words.@cstross one of those books was the first indie ebook I ever bought. I read the whole thing on my Treo 600. I felt like I was living in the future

I'm sure many of you have seen the Threads list of servers they have defederated from.@ohno I think I do. Many Fediverse servers offer users not on the server the ability to see a feed of public posts from the server. For example I can go here and see a feed of public posts from mastodon.social users
Mastodon
The original server operated by the Mastodon gGmbH non-profit
Mastodon hosted on mastodon.social (mastodon.social)
