Oh totally. Education is absolutely vital, and not the crap they teach at universities, producing those ignorant people who can't even clean water. And it does take a lot of skill to live where the government doesn't work well, but if people work together and cooperate, they can save a lot of that labor. These water filters weren't some tiny plastic garbage that only cleans the water in your own cup. They were the size of a small bus, and could provide enough water for dozens of families living together. There's a lot that small communities just can't manage, but there's also a limit to how large you can scale before someone in the system is getting shafted. I dunno where that limit is, only that it's important to pay attention to.

You know people who make posts like "America is the third world" have... never actually been to the third world have they?Yeah OK that's fair. The US does have pretty amazing water treatment, though I've been hearing lately a lot of impoverished people are getting their water turned off in my city, from inability to pay. Diarrhea still isn't the leading cause of death.
Ugh, but even there I have to consider that you don't have to be well off to avoid dying of diarrhea. Just dig shitholes far away from the water, build a fire to boil your water, put it through a charcoal filter, using charcoal from the fire, and make sure anyone with diarrhea gets more water until they've flushed out whatever it is. Death from diarrhea is death by dehydration.

Not to say that's always possible in say, Africa. But the problem there is motherfucking asshole corporates forcing people to live crowded together and denying them any chance to protect themselves, while dumping toxic waste in their drinking water. The problem is not that Africans are so poor and impoverished uwu. People are actually poisoning them.
I still vaguely remember at that UU church I went to, some lady was like 92, and she was the head of a project to simply go to various villages downstream of a massive industrial operation in Africa, and show them how to build charcoal/gravel filters for their water. Diarrhea plummeted anywhere those got put in. She brought back great photos, and got me interested in learning how water filtration works.
But I swear I agree with you!

Jesus.context for the weak: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haiti_Independence_Debt
tl;dr Haiti was poor for over 100 years, b/c France was charging them to pay for the slaves they stole. (They were the slaves they stole.)

"This election has made me more afraid for the future of the United States than any previous election. Not simply because Trump is running, but because the fact that he’s running—and doing as well as he is—after a disastrous four years in office, revea...It's not a larger part, so much as a very small part who convinced everyone they should control the media because if anyone else did that would be stealing. Blame the victims all you want, the few orchestrating it are laughing their asses at how easy it was to pull the wool over your eyes.

Wasn't sure if I was emotionally ready to go back into the fray, but my questions-approach to NextDoor activism is going well. Going in for the kill now. You're accepting the premise that critical race theory is Marxist, and that Marxism is bad. Better to teach him about some of the things the House Un-American Affairs committee said was Marxism, and how Lenin went against Marxism in establishing his regime. (Remember "Peace Land Bread?") Unfortunately, well-meaning individuals like to bury the evidence under the rug, but if you can find who the literal Nazis demonized for "Cultural Bolshevism," he's surely heard of "Cultural Marxism" before and can make the connection.
And finally you might point him at information on cult deprogramming, specifically how cults use imaginary conspiracies to get their members to fear outsiders, making them more vulnerable to manipulation, and taking away their means of escape through pure FUD.
He probably won't listen, but winking slyly at him and saying, "Oh, but cuddling puppies isn't Marxism, is it? You don't hate puppies, do you?" isn't likely to help. He's been fooled into thinking Marxism is a great threat, and he knows perfectly well that tankies have tried to use things like critical race theory to promote their agenda.

How do we get "normies" to adopt the Fediverse? We have instancewide admin blocks, so the accounts that would be automatically reported can be blocked preemptively, no report needed. That can be both good and bad... but pick a sheltered instance and you shouldn't get harassed. How would automatic reporting even work? I don't recall, but doesn't the admin interface let you specify keywords that alert the admins in a post? Is that what you mean?

What's wild is once you actually start paying attention, you find out what we mean by "systemic".Making it harder to sacrifice people, that's a beautiful metaphor. And when you think on it, is America really doing worse as they complain, if fewer people are being sacrificed? Many of those people are Americans, after all! The flame dies down, but why would we want it to burn?

There's something I've been thinking about for a long time. It's not your responsibility, just it might be your loss. What would you rather I engage with? I agree White Americans are being used as foils, and we can't change that without dismantling white supremacy. Nothing to contribute there. And people do need to do more than exclaim loudly that police brutality is bad. Thus, the collective action and organizing...

There's something I've been thinking about for a long time.Honestly your message is great, and I really respect it. The only thing I'd change is saying "many White Americans don't want to contend with." It goes from making people who sympathize with you feeling attacked, to making people who don't sympathize question their role. And yeah you don't know who the fuck I am so you can flip me the finger and ignore me just as well. Maybe we'll run across each other again.
-
There's something I've been thinking about for a long time. This isn't exactly private, and I doubt you want to work with me, but yeah I'm always looking for ways to work together to dismantle supremacy. What isn't likely to do that is when we use the language of supremists, accepting their broadly defined arbitrary terms, in order to shame our own allies.
-
There's something I've been thinking about for a long time.Except for all the Americans who do want to contend with it, who would be considered white by the supremists. Some people avoid thinking about it, but not all. Most even, would dismantle white supremacy even at their own expense, if they could. Yet how does a lone individual dismantle a system that they don't control? You need collective action and organizing, privately so you can't be targeted.
