Why only 2/3? I stood 40min outside in a thunderstorm, no overhead shelter. No mail option. Unannounced closures. Black neighborhoods, police escorted MAGA convoys by polling places!
@Remittancegirl @TCatInReality @Pineywoozle @humanhorseshoes @mastodonmigration One of the complexities I can't understand people refusing to see is that largely they were, and remain, slave states: large portions of the population are of-color or otherwise minoritized and suffer most our robust and profitable prison pipeline. Thus incarcerated, captive, forced to labor, denied enfranchisement - but still counted as population.

They imagine most everyone living there resembles the leadership, a tiny minority of stale, pale, male plutocrats, and thus can be safely written off as "deserving" their fate.
We're gerrymandered, voters intimidated and suppressed, but it's still a chance.
@wdlindsy Those with all the money aren't on the same team in the fallout as their "useful idiots." They know the price of labor would skyrocket, they recognize that most people won't be able to afford basics. They know that will plunge many of their average voters down into the depths of working poverty, whence they'll be willing to take the roles formerly occupied by the immigrants they ousted. But the money, power, prestige will have concentrated to fewer hands: the real goal.

@risottobias Though onboard with critiques of stoicism + mindfulness as a way to “correct” people into conveniently self-effacing sheep herding themselves off the burnout cliff, which stoic did you have in mind, or did you mean some modern guy adapting it for business bro culture?
Seneca advised Nero, maybe who you meant, but also included are Epictetus, born a slave; Zeno, who actually founded it 400 years earlier, we don’t know his means, though he taught in public.
