Should there be a governance organization for the Fediverse? -
So, there's articles now saying office spaces downtown are getting more and more leases. So, there's articles now saying office spaces downtown are getting more and more leases. The indication is that they are AI related. And now the new owner of SF has added a bunch of techies to his "transition" team.
My BIGGEST critisim of SF for decades hasn't been homeless or transport or taxes or anything. It has been the unbelievable dependance upon a single market. We were hit harder than any other city BECAUSE of this dependancy, and coming out of it slower than others BECAUSE we don't have diversity.
Rather than seeking out every tech company on the planet and offering the city-government equivalent of a hand-job, we should be reaching out to other industries, so if AI hits a wall and things get fucked up, we aren't in the shit again.
Then again, with my view of how things are going in this country, I'll be surprised if SF isn't in much much much bigger trouble than a simple financial crash.

Should there be a governance organization for the Fediverse?@evan As someone who's set up and run an instance in the past, I can tell you:
1. The structure of the fediverse and activitypub itself is about as perfect as you can get for governance. It allows a massive amount of freedom as well as the ability to be governed if you choose. It's simply rarely seen and not quite understood.
2. ActivityPub, the base protocal linking all these instances, works similar to email, where a post is simply a reply to an email and everyone commenting is cc'd, but everyone on your instance can also see everyone else's mail on that instance. "governing" ActivityPub would be like controlling email - and starting a world wide organization to do that.... talk about herding cats!Anyway. The best thing the Fediverse can do to govern is create more and more *small* instances that are specialized to people's interests.

"Rightwing settlers and extremist nationalist Zionists in Israel have described top officials in Donald Trump’s new administration as a 'dream team' which will offer a 'unique and special opportunity' to expand Israel’s hold on occupied territory and p...@wdlindsy although, the "not me! not my church!" people are almost as bad as cops who stand around while another cop is beating the crap of some helpless person. "I'm a good cop! I didn't like what he did" "I waved a rainbow flag, see??"
But you know what the "good christians" didn't do? They stood aside and let this shit happen. They could have made a massive showing and said, not Trump, but those *churches* are not Christian. That those *churches* do not speak for them. That those *churches* teach hate and not love.

I think I always had a pretty low opinion of evangelicals, and even most christians in general, but now it's reached a point that I couldn't possibly imagine.
Honestly, I just hate them all. I simply despise the people that put him in office and most especially the ones that do it "in god's name".
fuck. them.
