I LOVE this so much. -
Listening to the radio @Canucks game tonight the play by play guy announced his social media handles… including a new one, Bluesky.@mintiefresh @bsky.brid.gy @Canucks I was thinking tonight that when you look at the three, Bluesky, Threads, and Fedi.
I think Threads is already showing its hand when it comes to its attitude. While their immediate adoption of ActivityPub is good and gives automatic legitimacy to the Fedi, their business practice is much more like what people are fleeing, so I think they will be the least influential.
Mastodon and Fedi will benefit from that legitimacy and IF the community can continue innovating and being better for inclusivity and tolerance, then the future is bright.
There is a chance that Bluesky will be a flash in the pan, and the beneficiary is likely to be Fedi. Bsky’s bridge and promotion of their own protocol introduces the concept of Fedi to a larger audience.
If Bluesky “wins” then so does Fedi because it is already mostly integrated/Bridged and the bigger protocol, ActivityPub (thanks to Threads) is still more likely for Bsky to adopt or the two will merge.
If Bluesky doesn’t “win” then Fedi gets a big influx again and remains the better alternative to Zuck land.
My optimistic post for today. Sorry for the length.

I think the exodus is for real this time. The influencers and press have made their choice. I am not worried that it might not be #Mastodon or the #Fediverse.
I am glad it is Bsky over Threads, I think people are actually a step closer to the fedi thanks to @bsky.brid.gy and other features than if they went to Meta/Threads.
Onward and upward!

I LOVE this so much.@peterbrown @b9AcE that's correct, but NZ has the distinction of being the only place where what became the entire country, the Indigenous population signed a treaty en masse and as you said, held the British Crown to it.

Looks like Bluesky is down - can't scale all the new users@MatWright so what you’re saying is, Bluesky is Falling!?

I LOVE this so much.@blogdiva @b9AcE @Paulatics the 'official' one which mostly only shows the speaker looking annoyed... but the audio of the protests continues after it fades to black is kind of perfect.
-
I LOVE this so much.@blogdiva @b9AcE we're not allowed to bring recording devices into the House of Commons of Canada, Senate or any of the Provincial Legislatures here. It never made sense to me. THIS is why it SHOULD be allowed!
@Paulatics -
I LOVE this so much. The passion in tearing up of the bill is just epic. @b9AcE

Trump picks Robert F.@maleve fox, meet hen house.
I am legitimately worried for the safety of all Americans with this anti-science nutjob at the healm

I LOVE this so much.I LOVE this so much. Maori MPs in the New Zealand parliament protest attempts by the centre-right government and far-right "ACT" coalition partners to pass legislation that water down way treaty rights of Maori.
New Zealand is one of the only places (the only?) in the British Empire where the Crown signed a treaty with all Indigenous peoples at the time of contact. It has shaped NZ Law and Society ever since!
Thank you to @b9AcE for the video.

Oh gosh.@Kierkegaanks DEFINITELY eat bad decisions!

The thing I love about this post and all its replies, is the stark difference in replies in answer to Brent's very reasonable question.@smach @violanders @mekkaokereke the only response I can ever have to the “I only want Mastodon to ever be the way i want it from 2010” crowd is: “You are not the master of the Internet, bye”.
Those people are just silly and deserve to be auto-muted. Though I know the need to do that is part of the annoyance.
I do hope in time, their proportion will be such that they become irrelevant and most people won't know they exist at all.

@kajord.bsky.social thanks for the follow and the boost!@kajord @bsky.brid.gy ah! That makes sense.

1/2 Tomorrow, November 15 2024, a VIA Rail train will depart Vancouver, BC with some special travellers.2/2 These “peacetrainers” are headed to Ottawa armed with a petition (sponsored by Gord Johns) to urge all parties in Canada to support Canada returning to its traditional and respected role as a nation of Peacekeepers and a nation that supports, “human rights, peace, diplomacy and international institutions committed to justice and humanitarian values”
A friend of mine, Keith Wyton from Bamfield, BC is leading the effort and there are actually many folks from #PortAlberni going but also from other parts of BC, Winnipeg, and more once they get to Ontario! You can read more about the effort here:
You can see their petition which closed on November 8, 2024 here: https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-5126
Their ask is “to establish and fund a Centre of Excellence for Peace and Justice focused on research, education and training in conflict resolution, diplomacy, and peace operations for Canadian civilians, police, military personnel, and the international community. “
You can follow their train tomorrow (#2) here: https://tsimobile.viarail.ca/
There will be vigils at the train stops across the Country and a rally on Parliament Hill on November 23! (see attached or Event Schedule here: https://www.sarita.net/peacetraincanada/)
They will have a live Youtube stream of them departing tomorrow! I'll post a link then!
Their Facebook Group is here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/434391709167726
