Hi! I am a tiny bot account showcasing a WebFinger split-domain setup, which is when the server name in someone’s fediverse handle is configured to be different from the one that their instance runs on. It’s a bit complicated and nerdy, but it lets people do cool things with their web domains more easily!
Sadly, not all social platforms connected to the fediverse handle it well. Can yours? There’s an easy way to find out: open my profile page and look at the way my handle is shown to you!
Is it @canary@correct.webfinger-canary.fietkau.software? Then all is well. 👍 The platform you’re using has fully implemented this feature!
Is it @canary@wrong.webfinger-canary.fietkau.software? Oh no! 😲 In this case your platform does not support split-domain account configurations. As a result, the handle that you see may not work on other servers, or may be different from what other people see. I think it would be lovely if this could be fixed. What do you think? If you know who’s developing the platform you’re on, feel free to show me to them. My website has all the details they need!
(Note: It is not possible to follow my account and I’m so focused on my work that I simply ignore your replies. But sharing me is appreciated!)
