That Ted Lasso Amsterdam episode was so damn good.

I put The Fifth Element on last night for a while because I guess I needed even more Gary Oldman, but I just gotta reiterate that I love that movie.

It's one of my favorites of all time. I just love how everything is presented, the visual design, the absurdity, etc. I especially love how the movie doesn't try to convince you of the coolness of any of its scenes or set pieces or costumes. It just shows them to you the way it'd show you a totally ordinary contemporary scene.

I'm probably missing big context, but something that has bothered me for decades is seeing photos/descriptions of old companies that had entire departments of people doing a task - stuff like "computing" where there'd be a room of people with slide rules, etc.

The company was able to afford employing all those people and still make a profit.

But now that department of people is one Excel spreadsheet and somehow the company is still trying to cut costs, downsize, and avoid hiring at all costs.

We finished Slow Horses. Now we have to wait almost a year for the next season.?! That’s a crime. It’s criminal. There should be a continuous stream of nothing but new Slow Horses episodes from now until the end of time. I want a live stream of Slow Horses. Come on Apple! Get on it! Make it happen!

I had a dream where I was programming a game or something on a Commodore 64 but I was at my childhood neighbor's house because I did't have a C64. As dreams go, it morphed and suddenly I realized I wasn't using a 64 anymore but instead the machine had changed to a 128 and something was different or wrong about the keyboard and I was confused about how to use it.

It was weird, but I woke up wanting a whole vintage C64 setup again. lol

In the last three days we’ve caught five mice in the house. The perils of living right next to a field when the weather starts getting colder.

The cats have been useless, however. They must be the world’s worst mouse hunters.

@jnv it’s so good. The craziest thing is season 1 is probably the weakest one if you can believe it. (At least so far - we are in season 3.)

Slow Horses is a legit great show. Entertaining twists and turns that are still easy to follow. Flawed characters that are a cross between terrible and admirable. Dark, but not overly so. Funny, but not overly so. Clever, but not overly so. Solid.

Uhhh.. my middle kid is suddenly taller than me. He's only 13. wtf is this crap?!

Ok, we're finished with the show. That very final ending segment was... special.

Overall, a decent (and at the time groundbreaking) show, but I have mixed feelings about the whole run.

Season 2 was probably the weakest. Season 3 was maybe the strongest - although 4 was no slouch for most of it.

According to my kids, "Apple computers are great for work but suck for fun stuff."

This opinion is entirely because of things like the available games selections on Steam.

Trick or Treating was DANG COLD this year. About 43F with wind gusts up to 35mph - feels like temp is around 28F.

This trial of Baltar is fantastic. Infuriating, but fantastic.

I'm waiting for some spackle to dry and realizing I'm going to need to sand it and I don't have / can't find a sanding block. I somehow have sandpaper for a sanding block... but no actual block. How did that happen?

(I could make one with a chunk of wood or do without, but I need a paint brush anyway... sigh.)

Sooo... heading to the home improvement store for the second time!

I think my top score is 4 trips for one "this should be easy" job. Hopefully I don't have to break that record today.

Repair job update: Still don't know what I'm doing, but now that I got past the scary "fully break stuff I might not know how to fix afterward" stage and have entered the "patch it up" stage, it at least *looks* like maybe it'll work out.

It's really upsetting that the physical world doesn't have git so I can just roll back my changes if I went down the wrong road and start again.

And of course at the same time my mind can't help but wander to the many many much bigger things I need fixed in the house but that I have no hope of affording anytime soon. So in the meantime, it just continues to decay and there's nothing I can do about it. (Well, nothing except get a loan from the bank, probably, which is just kicking the financial can down the road even farther.)
