Yes left politics has this self-defeating hierarchy. Each group dismissive of the other, so unity is extremely unlikely normally speaking.
It's only when a huge issue affects everyone equally badly that they can come together.
Let's be honest, if this election, or more pertinently the aftermath of it, isn't that huge issue then it's difficult to imagine what it would take.

Divisions of the left are universal.
The problem 'the left' has is that it encompasses dozens of causes and millions of ideas.
The animal rights lobby, for example, want action, they've no truck with progressive politics, of trying to fit. The unions want individual rights with less governmental interference. Every cause has a group. Every group has a list of demands.
Unity is impossible.

The right want tax cuts and the unlimited control that fascism brings.
Unity is money.

It looks ever more likely that Trump will benefit from his own ignorance.

His endless stream of monotonous garbage, to what he believes is an admiring audience, is actually providing more reason for people to move further away from politics as an interest. No-one likes being brow-beaten.

So, with his noise bouncing off the only input they get is from the media. The morning paper picked up on the way to work.

And who owns that.

So, unintentionally, his din possibly works.
