Alright all you lovely and lovable people, it's my bedtime!
Goodnight Fedi-friends
It's pretty amusing watching "___ followed you" notifications scroll by on both accounts—makes me feel like a big celebrity or something
I just merged my follow lists between accounts and now my phone and laptop are exploding with follow notifications.
Guess that's what I get for syncing around 2k follows
Good morning fam 🫶
How are you all doing today?
Did you watch any good horror movies on Friday the 13th? I watched the first Fear Street with my kiddo (it wasn't bad, I'd watch the next one ️).
It was about gratitude for people I know here who make my life better just by being themselves...like you, @thisismissem
(Sorry for the late answer)
Just your friendly reminder that anything created or owned by a corporation will eventually consume everything its users love—and eventually itself—in the name of "growth".
Nothing, and no one, is safe from the cancerous embrace of late-stage capitalism.
However, there is hope...if we act.
The Fediverse is proof we don't need to accept the enshittification of our social media.
Open access and open source communities are proof we can stand on each other's shoulders to build a better solution.
These are a great start, but we need to treat capitalism like the disease it is, and actively fight it off.
So...block those ads, circumvent those paywalls, pirate that shit, pollute your data, and cut out whatever rotten tendrils of corporate greed you can from your life.
Capitalism can't survive if we stop feeding it.
We'll need to support each other when it lashes out—and it'll scream, and thrash, and try to take us down with it, but that's the desperation of a dying system.
If you're wondering where to start, aim for the data.
If we make it cost more to process our garbage data than companies can get from selling it, then we win that fight. And, given corporate reliance on data-brokering as a revenue stream, that's a *big* fight.
Hey :nonbinary_flag: nonbinary :nonbinary_flag: folks! Poll time

Aww, you guys (gals, and enby pals)... :neocat_blush_hide:
As someone who has had their confidence and self-esteem systematically wrecked for most of their life, I can truly say that this community has been one of the best things to ever happen to me.
I'm constantly reminded of just how big a part Mastodon has played in me recovering from my injury and in me finding myself again.
Every one of you is a gift
Thank you. All of you. I love you (and I mean it).
🥰 So fulfilling! 🥰 A friend just brought their little daughter over to my place, because she had a journal with a 3 wheel combination lock on it, and she'd forgotten the combo.
I showed her how to decode it, and eventually she got it open! We changed the combo and locked it again so she could practice more.
After a bit, she was asking about other kinds of locks, so I happily brought out an assortment of antique and miniature locks from my collection.
A couple hours later they had to leave, and she was beaming! Today she had picked 2 warded locks, a pair of police cuffs, raked open a 4-pin tumbler, and decoded a combination lock!
I sent her off with a smiley yellow binder clip and a minuscule warded lock to practice on.
They asked to come back next week to learn more.
I feel like the Yoda of lock-sport.

Update: Friend just texted me to say their daughter is thinking of starting a YouTube channel to document her growth in lock-sport, and wanted advice on gear/setup stuff.
