Bluesky seems to have hit a network effect threshhold in the wake of the election, and some of the last Twitter holdout communities have re-grouped over there this week. New celebs, more sports commentators, scientists, etc, and nearing 15M users.

Mastodon also seems to be picking up a bit, but not to the same extent. I think that's fine, I've been encouraging people at Bluesky to at least have an account over here.

We very much need strong idependent journalism, and if transferring support from failing legacy media to local outlets and non-profits is what it takes, that's what we do.

(I don't know about here, but over at bluesky if you search for "Washington Post" everyone is posting screencaps of their WashPo subscription cancellations.)

When you cancel your Washington Post and other billionaire-compromised media subsciptions, consider replacing them with your support for outlets still performing real journalism. Local public media, ProPublica, etc.

If billionaire media owners are manipulating their political coverage to appease Trump because they are scared of a potential Trump presidency, we gotta ask ourselves what we are doing wrong that they aren't fucking terrified of us as well.
