I wonder if Mastodon is to Meta what Firefox is to Google. -
I wonder if Mastodon is to Meta what Firefox is to Google.@mttaggart yes sorry I agree and I didn't mean to conflate the two things.
My gut feeling is that having a text-based network with 200 million active users is a goldmine for training Llama (real objective).
Throwing in Fediverse support was to appease European regulators.
My two cents.

Dear Fedi friends,Dear Fedi friends,
Can you please join me in giving a warm welcome to @laurenlopes?
Lauren and I interacted on Threads, where she stumbled upon some of my posts from #TheFutureIsFederated and became curious about the #Fediverse (please Lauren correct me if I'm wrong).
Well, earlier this week Lauren joined #Mastodon 🥳
It always gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when I see someone climb over the walled gardens of Big Tech platforms to explore the Fediverse.
Welcome Lauren!!!

I'm sorry, it took *how* many servers to post a single long message from Ghost to 5k fediverse accounts and handle some replies?@kissane a point to add: paying for Fediverse followers is scary because there's no real way to gauge if these users are active or not.
I LOVE it how in Ghost I can look up my subscribers and immediately identify who received 10 of my newsletters but NEVER opened them or interacted with them. I can remove these inactive users as followers so I'm not spending money to send them newsletters they never open. How on earth can one do this with AP followers?

I wonder if Mastodon is to Meta what Firefox is to Google.@rwg @mttaggart I think it's 10% this and 90% having access (and mining) users' messages in order to train their LLM Llama. Think about it: Facebook is totally passé, IG is their most popular product but all image-based. The wealth of information and sentiment analyses they can gather from Threads is astounding

My father died on Thursday.@miaq Oh Mia I'm so sorry for your loss. What a moving post you wrote. Sending you and your whole family a big hug ️

With more of us now having multiple fediverse accounts, I'm curious how people are handling differentiating them.@ricmac that's a really nice idea. Ditto for adding tiny logos like @bekopharm suggested. Honestly 95% of my posts come from Mastodon... but I am using Friendica and my federated blog more and more so I should do something about that

With more of us now having multiple fediverse accounts, I'm curious how people are handling differentiating them.@pfefferle @ricmac grey is my favorite color to wear actually - but yeah I hear you! Maybe I'll go with mint green
-
With more of us now having multiple fediverse accounts, I'm curious how people are handling differentiating them.@ricmac I use different background colors for mine (pink = Mastodon, blue = Pixelfed, yellow = Friendica, grey = federated Wordpress blog)

@pfefferle Matthias! I'm incredibly grateful for all your amazing advice and quick help@pfefferle ha! Thank you re: the clarification that it may not fix existing comments but future ones... I kept deleting the cache and checking from a browser in incognito mode, but nothing helped. This makes perfect sense. I'll publish a brand new comment from here and see how things go. THANK YOU AGAIN!

@pfefferle Matthias! I'm incredibly grateful for all your amazing advice and quick help@pfefferle P.S.: you'd appreciate that the AI support bot is very careful and keeps reminding me "Make sure to back up the file before making any changes."
-
@pfefferle Matthias! I'm incredibly grateful for all your amazing advice and quick help@pfefferle PhpMyAdmin didn't help, so I'm about to manually change my wp-config.php file and see how things go.
Mind you Matthias I'm an artist, NOT a developer. About to take a big sip from my cup of coffee, pray and hope I don't break my site LOL (I do have access to file manager and I have a backup of the old file ready to be re-uploaded just in case). Living on the edge

@pfefferle Matthias! I'm incredibly grateful for all your amazing advice and quick help@pfefferle I just got a super fast reply with a clear step-by-step guide from their AI support bot. The only use of AI I approve of, LOL

This is what the future of publishing looks likeThis is what the future of publishing looks like
It makes me feel so happy to log onto my #Wordpress site and see this new #ActivityPub menu item about the number of followers of my blog from the #Fediverse. And comments awaiting moderation, which are usually Fediverse replies to my federated blog post. It's just so cool!!! (Yes, I will probably keep gushing about this for another month or so, please bear with me)
