@thegibson I'm watching Paris is Burning for the first time. When it came out in 1990, the default expectation was for parents to reject and disown their queer kids if they got found out. The queer community has always been a necessary lifeline for gay and trans to have some sense of family. It's not that there are more of them now - it's that there is more safety to be real.
