It's strange how clippy was pretty universally reviled and became the textbook example for bad UX, but now just about every app and website I use is forever popping up little info alerts. Oh, hey, seems like you're busy, would you like to learn more about how we reshuffled menu items this week? Apparently, UI designers read that chapter and came to a different conclusion than I did.

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc7239/@trwnh yeah, so I think if we can get everyone to agree to relax sig checking to only date and digest, it would allow forwarding without the complication of ld sig. so, uh, good luck.
For something like Create, we could also use the published time in the activity, and if it looks old, reverify by fetching.

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc7239/@trwnh ha, pretty much. It's important in principle that host be signed, just less so for AP. AP really only cares about the digest.
Anybody still doing the LD dance isn't looking at these headers, just the digest equivalent.

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc7239/@trwnh oh, I meant you can send me http requests with Host: mastodon.social and I'll probably process them, because it doesn't really matter. But getting the client library to send requests like that is more complicated, and kinda moot. Anyway.

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc7239/@trwnh oh, wait, wait, yeah. Unless the destination was willing to accept it.
I just realized I don't check the host header matches the server name anywhere. Ha.

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc7239/@trwnh that doesn't seem necessary. You can replay the original post as received to anyone you want to forward it to. In effect, just like a proxy would.

Hey, which #ActivityPub app allows an #emoji to be used as a #hashtag?@knapjack so, it's actually not allowed by the default markdown parser, but that is bypassable with some effort.
I honestly hadn't considered it, but seems easy to fix, too.

Instead of making a new federated stack overflow, why don't we simply add a Q&A feature to the mastodon fork?Instead of making a new federated stack overflow, why don't we simply add a Q&A feature to the mastodon fork?

What would a federated Wikipedia or stack overflow even do? The whole point is it's a big organized silo. What would a federated Wikipedia or stack overflow even do? The whole point is it's a big organized silo.
We have a federated Wikipedia. It's called the internet.

Article Interop WG: How to represent titles?@silverpill that's interesting because I'd say no, but html pages frequently duplicate title and h1.

Among other oddities, nodebb also sends out Announce activities without an "id" property.@trwnh I think the spec could be clearer on what that means.

Nodebb also publicly shows posts that aren't addressed to as:Public.Nodebb also publicly shows posts that aren't addressed to as:Public.
Seen here the comment from Dmitri is not technically a public object.
That's probably a bug in discourse, but nodebb shouldn't be showing it either.
