The thing that Voicemeeter does really well was including those virtual sinks for programs to direct their audio into, so that you could, say, split your system audio into groups of inputs, say, "Games", "VOIP", "Music", which could be recorded or routed separately from each other.
Obviously Windows' audio system is too simple, but knowing how simple it is to create virtual sinks I could see patchbays and a virtual sink manager working nicely for Linux gamers/streamers.
