@parismarx i think it's 100% about the monopolies. there's so much innovation that could happen in smartphones. i like a physical keyboard and a phone with a square display, but none of the major manufacturers makes a phone like that (i know there are a number of people like me who miss blackberries and the like and would buy something like that if it existed). i bet there are people who don't want a gamillion megapixel 3 lens camera (all of which can break) and would trade that for some other feature. making the phones modular so you can mix and match parts--like sensors, or quality of sensors--and do aftermarket mods and upgrades would be fantastic. and that's just off the top of my head. if this weren't a completely monopolized market and there were people with resources experimenting with phone designs without fear of being destroyed by apple and google, who knows what cool variations they'd come up with. you already see the potential for this with chinese smartphone makers.
