    • RE: Multiple processes. Is Redis required?

Ok. We should change / mention that in the documentation, too.

Is Redis only used for runtime data? Or in other words: I don't have to do any backups of the Redis database?

    • German translation (Du / Sie)

Is this the right place to discuss translations?

The German translation is a little bit inconsistent, it switches between the informal 'Du' and the formal 'Sie'. I would like to change everything to informal language. Any objections?

    • Multiple processes. Is Redis required?

If I try to run multiple processes (ports), I get the error
      Error: [[error:redis-required-for-pubsub]]

      The documentation says

When you setup NodeBB to use more than one process, it is advisable to configure Redis as well. Each NodeBB process can communicate with the others through Redis pub-sub.

Is Redis advisable or is it required?

    • RE: Postgres question

      @julian said in Postgres question:

@gotwf the database abstraction layer is fairly stable, we haven't had to make many changes to it at all for years. The Postgres implementation is fully supported 🙂

It would be nice to have a bit more documentation for the Postgres support. It's only mentioned here and here:

      config.json - NodeBB Documentation
      Fedora - NodeBB Documentation

If you follow the other OS install guides you already have installed MongoDB when you reach the config.json page.

    • RE: best OS for NodeBB

My NodeBB instance runs on Alpine Linux 3.5.2 inside a SmartOS lx zone...

Debian 7 is quite old. Try something more recent.

    • RE: German translation (Du / Sie)

It looks to me like the German translation was intented to be informal. That is what most communities would use anyway and what should be the default. So I would consider the formal language in the recent translation a bug.

I also think the translation could be improved. Most parts are very well translated other parts are not so perfect and a few are just wrong.

I'm also not sure, if there is really a need for a formal German translation. It's just a UI. We wouldn't talk to Siri, Google or Alexa in a formal way.

Of course there is nothing wrong to have a formal translation as an option, but would there be a maintainer? Who wants to do the extra work and keep the two translations in sync.

      I opened an issue: https://github.com/NodeBB/NodeBB/issues/5619

streaps created this issue in NodeBB/NodeBB

closed German translation inconsistencies / should we add de-x-formal? #5619
