I guess I better dig out the DeLorean....
@Rahul-Ramesh
I'll definitely keep that first one in mind - It seems very applicable in mobile, but on my silly-big desktop monitor I would find that it trades that for excess scrolling - I think. Certainly something to experiment with.
And the sidebar seems a very solid thought, I'll have to look at some other themes that have done that...
edit
It had been a bit since I looked at the code for the child categories. The width is based ( at this time ) entirely on the the category's css class. And I've modified VERY few of those at this point - so it's very defaulty.
I'm working on my first plugin and have based it strongly on the imgur plugin to use Rackspace Cloudfiles for storage.
The code seems to work fine if I use it for a category image but I get an invalid CSRF response if I do it in a topic.
Ring any bells?
I have a LONG way to go here, but I thought I'd share a couple of things.
A little bit of Lavender and Vanilla in a blender plus feature requirements from in house.
Short version. The front page has a collapsable nested view of the Categories with the assumption that the top parent categories have no topics.
Posts have a severe abuse of the groups behaviour to implement forum titles and badges. Badges are displayed by placing a png file with the same name as the Font Awesome icon assigned to the group in the public/images folder ( ie fa-apple.png. ) If the file is not present the normal Font Awesome icon is not displayed - it doesn't mix and match yet.
Once I get a handle on plugins I'll probably move the badge code into a plugin. I also intend to push gravatars out into a plugin, add a custom SSO module, and add font-custom.
The I get to the prettification.
Oh. A link would be good.
Titan City Theme for nodebb. Based on 0.5.x lavender - dbolackmwm/nodebb-theme-titancity

@a_5mith I suppose that's effectively the same thing. Any pointers on how to implement that kind of behaviour?
Dumb question, cause it's come up on my side of the house a couple of times and is relevantish to the thread - has there been consideration to pulling gravatar back out into a plugin?
@bentael Did you get ba chance to beat on that Drupal dump I sent ya?
@psychobunny I only blew away the admin folder. Didn't touch the config.json. Is that necesssary?
@julian I did not, as that wasn't on the procedure - but there was the update which behaved similarly.
I fond the issue. I'm building up my own theme - which you might have noticed with all my other stupid questions - and I had fully copied over the vanilla theme and was hacking away at that... Including the admin. Nuked my themes copy and there you go.
So the old theme does not line up with the new build.
After seeing this I pulled off of the old 0.5.1 checkout I had and switched to the v.0.5.x and did the update procedure as documented.
I suspect either that was not the right way to go about this or something is amiss at the Circle K.
None of the admin routes except the general config and the plugins individual panels seem to exist.
Since I'm not anywhere near production this is mostly an inconvenience - but if I was "doing it right" I'd hate for someone else to be broken...
Any ideas what happened?
Is the oauth plugin the best place for me to look for a skeleton to hand roll against a custom data source or is there maybe a better example?
@esaio The only difference in your snippets and mine are that my import was also inside of the children loop.
Oh.
This is a good laugh. It seems that whenever I did my %s/ on children. to categories.children I didn't bother to spell children right or ever properly read my output.
So yeah.
Working now.
I'm using 0.5.1, FWIW.
Hmm. That's totally not working in my case.
I wonder if there's a regression.
Again, this is on home.tpl.
When I change the inner loop to categories.children, no iterations. ( I was assuming there was an implicit "With" type behavior going on here.)
When I do it on children, it works, but I can't bust out the values.
Also.
<!-- IF categories.children.length --> does not seem to work. I'd like to ditch that kludge. Am I calling it wrong?
I'd tried that, I though, so I went and did it again.
If I leave the BEGIN as is, and change the partial to use categories.children.* it behaves the same way.
If I do the BEGIN with categories.children, it's blank - but I expected that.
<!-- BEGIN children -->
<!-- IMPORT partials/home_child.tpl -->
<!-- END children -->
home_child.tpl is a copy of the categories_child.tpl with every children.* changed to a categories.children.*
Is it possible that we cannot access an inner array's contents with templatejs?
The latest in my how do I.. on the new theme.
I'm making use of the subcategories thus only displaying the parents on the home.
I wanted to add a toggle to display a div containing the categories.children members and managed to do so but didn't find a clean way to do it.
<!-- IF categories.children --> and <!-- IF children --> didn't seem to do the trick. Is there an exists? or the like construct?
So I ended up doing
<!-- BEGIN children -->
<!-- IF @first -->
...
This works but it's obviously inelegant at best.
The other thing that seems to fail as a result, and I'm not certain why but it may be just another bag of bad assumptions, is the actual child div contents.
As a shortcut I pulled the included partial from the categories page for the category children and used it. It.. kind of works.. But, well, look for yourself. The same partial works fine on the categories page.
You can see it's iterating through (the correct number ) of children, but for some reason it's not substituting the values it should.
I ask a lot of questions - heh. Sorry.
I'm not certain if this is something that can be done as plugin or if this is something that would have to to be done as a core enhancement - so I'm asking here before I go to far down the rabbit hole.
I'd like to do two things for groups. The first, add the option of an external bitmap image. The second is add the option of adding to or replacing the Font Awesome options with Font Custom ( http://fontcustom.com/ ) which is essentially roll your own Font Awesome.
My rationale is that I'm going to abuse groups slightly to provide two requirements that have been imposed on me ( Badges and Forum Titles ) by using Groups for both. Those with Images , badges, those without, titles.
Anyhow. Is this an enhancement to the codebase or something I can do with a plugin? Pointers would be great.
