@julian yes exactly that. You already have the solution!
You can the. decide if you want to list avatars and names or avatars only or have a second click on the pop up “show usernames” but tucking it away solves the overall issue nicely.

Ok thanks @crazycells
How does a user on NodeBB community manage the federation of their content?
Do we have a management panel in profile or ???????
If nothing exists, then a native user of a forum should at least be able to have an option like:
Disable federation of all user content and information
Check by default no less, and maybe more but you get the idea, of the user need.
So as you can see @crazycells can see some user information already on mastodon, I think by default from a user privacy point of view and all that jazz it should not be assumed and set to default no. It only takes one user to complain!
@julian Custom NodeBB in-post tickers/counters > click to view >>> I'd suggest a popup actually! (re: help menu modal in composer)
No on screen UI expand jumps, quick peeks n'stuff.
Well you'll get there, build the to-do list and it will (eventually) get done.
Yes, technical support is the right place! This may have been covered in a spot somewhere but;
If a new topic is posted in the activity pub category is it federated out via NodeBb mastodon account or what happens exactly?
Is there a case to differentiate activity pub users versus native users etc.
Or, where is the exact post on these matters that I didn't bookmark!
@julian @baris From minor over the shoulder watching of this activitypub implementation.
It does looks like NodeBB is going to need an expandable stat-badge-total for shares/like etc. form a UIUX point of view mid posts, surely thing will become massively untenable if you have screens of "shares" on a busy spot.
I'm sure you've got that on a long finger to-do down the line list
@phenomlab Yes of course but I'm always thinking default out of the box bundle for NodeBB, we're in the live sandbox here kinda no???
So pick one to keep. Move on.
@jazmc said in Tags for posts in addition to topics:
Bumping this topic!
This would be a super useful feature for us who use NodeBB forum for storytelling purposes. In our forum, each topic is almost like a diary, and each post of those topics can be about totally different subjects. Tags to posts would make following different story lines so much easier for our readers.
We recently moved from phpbb3 to NodeBB, and post-based tags is literally the only feature I miss about our old forum. I really hope this feature will be added to NodeBB.
this is very close to my own use case and journey to the same conclusion that tags would really do something special.
How did I not see this topic!
@crazycells I was working on this idea back in 2021, only as a concept. I've got to my notes to see, I called it:
You might prefer HyperHash-Tags or Hyper-text-Hash-tags, but with Hyper Tags I more elements could be tagged. I generated this idea a from another project for specific note taking use cases that I was working on back in 2017, that never got finished, yet more recently I've seen it implemented in some way in other apps too more recently and i never saw this topic either, first time today.
I was also thinking about social search or more correctly recall issues and titled my musings
Search Functions - Through the Dimension of time.
Here where the potential tag levels and tangible elements for HypterTags in NodeBB
T1) Categories
T2) Topics
T3) Posts
T4) Paragraphs / lines / words
T5) Images
T6) Attachments
T7) Users
Maybe categories is one level too high but for the sake of completeness of the concept, it's included.
I was also think a C1, C2 etc. levels for custom tags for users, to help their own curation would be a neat thing. Tags relaly help organise in an inter-dimensional way and I do believe engages more efficiently how we recall information, working in sympathy rather than imposing a rigid structure (it's great to have both), think about those peopel who work on memory, they associate an image, a journey and then maybe an object to a piece of information and all of this gives them super memory recall, tags can work somewhat like that.
Rigid Vs Fluid
Structure Vs Tags
Creates a searchable dynamic
@baris Here is an idea, now that you have the breadcrumb / tree working above the topic title > remove the category badge completely from it's position beside the hashtags row
@phenomlab Yes, in instance where you miss a typo
The only issue is oversight, bad actor edits the poll option to a different result.
However instance of that probably wouldn't be too big a deal, and you could allow overnight by making edits viewable somehow/somewhere.
@dave1904 said in What other polls features would be cool and useful?:
Option to set multiple Polls in first post
Ah so you can not do this - I suppose it is early days but that would be good, this would give more survey like capability to the polls feature.
@dave1904 said in What other polls features would be cool and useful?:
Option to vote with answer/reason
To qualify - allow the user add their own custom option to the poll is that right?
Hey the new polls are great, and I see there is an option to set duration, cool. How about some other neat things that might really take polls that bit further than most implementations?
I suggested this a long time ago, eh persona times, and thought I posted it here but maybe not so posting now / again.
I want to see the post Edit button brought up to post-actions top level as a UI default, this will mean a user no longer has to make two clicks
3dots > select from drop down, edit
Making a post edit a single click action
I would also propose rebuilding the vote button so that to vote it becomes a simpel
click to vote on | click to vote off
So it only need one element, not three. This cleans up two really unnecessary buttons, and come on, let's think about it, which gets used more Edit or Vote?
Obviously it's edit, so why hide it? Let's reduce the click overhead here, reduce it to one click instead of two. Now while this totally suits my workflow, I often hit this button 2/3 times after a post, I'm a heavy editor of posts, the reality is voting is often a fire and forget action, most probably done once.
No takers?
I'm hot and cold on chats. They are not always applicable and are dependant on the average user behaviour and want.
I had a look at the chats and in there I see @drabiv point about how do users discover chats, I find it easier to reply here and think it will have more value, but even if users can find the chats, they do not necessarily need them or use them, so you have NodeBB that has to cater for all worlds and mixed worlds, so that's actually 3 worlds.
Now here is an idea. A Chat only version of NodeBB Chat Vs NodeBB Deluxe (the full version, the one we are on now).
I like chats to hit a person directly, the cognitive break also reinforces the more private and direct nature of the communication, even if a group chat, it's a contained exchange.
For some radical moves in ditching the nav bar why not jam in a Chat UI element there see what happens!
@julian Eh... too many columns or is that communities agghh!
Good, interesting and crucial points raised especially the ones that sync with any I've raised in the past!
For whatever it is worth
I had to run a "rebuild & restart" in the ACP after upgrade from 3.5.0 > 3.6.1, for the ACP to register the 3.6.1 version, it was still alerting me to update to 3.61 from 3.5.0
I also got this error at the end of upgrading (before running the ACP rebuild-restart) post ./nodebb start

In the ACP on the widget page, to the left of Save changes
it would be highly convenient to have a Disable/Enable Widgets
option.
Unless I've missed another way to do that, this would be useful to avoid having to remove you widget configuration to test things in an on/off manner.
