@Scuzz yeah, right click > properties allows you to "go back" to the windows 8 start carousel. But it's disabled by default in favour of the start menu.

Newbie Q - Installing nodeBB on digitaloceanUp to you, Redis is faster but costs more per gb in terms of storage, if you plan on having a lot of posts then mongodb. I had just under 30k posts on a 512mb droplet without issue. So, redis would be fine for you.

How to make tiles glossy ?@meetdilip Just a thought, I noticed on your website that you're only using css colours to create your tiles. If this is the case, you could always cheat slightly and use an image as the gloss. I created this one for you to download and try: https://i.imgur.com/zLBAf4u.png
Download that, and set it as the image on your categories, then set the image class to cover from the dropdown, this will produce an effect like the attached:
You can then specify the colour underneath as you normally would. If you had a specific angle you wanted, I can change the gloss image for you. (Once, time is money after all. ;))

Permissions are messed upInterestingly I was already on this page when you deleted that post, the opacity changed, but I could still read it, it was only when I refreshed that it said it was deleted.

Support for WebMSo I made this yesterday, and thought someone on here might like it. I've added support for webm files via gfycat.com, gfycat.com takes an ordinary .gif file, and converts it into a webm file, you then take the URL of that file, put it on your forum. Instant chicken dinner.
Installation
npm install nodebb-plugin-gfycat
I'd like to support all .webm files, but I don't know how, so if someone wants to pull on my request, that would be great, github can be found here
I'd also like for it to automatically convert .gifs posted to the forum into webm files via their API, but again, not entirely sure how to.
RIP .gif etc

List View for Categories@cytrax there's nothing out of the box that allows you to do that yet, but there's no reason you couldn't create a new theme and theme it yourself, all the info is there. Last post, last post time, etc, you'd just have to look inside topics.tpl and see the list view there, then replace most of the hooks from topics to categories. If that makes sense.

[nodebb-plugin-soundcloud] SoundCloud embed pluginI've submitted a PR for this for anyone that uses it to include soundcloud sets as well as tracks as before.
You can see the difference in the image below (sorry for the size), works the same as before, just paste the URL and it will work out if it's a track or a set and adjust the height of the iFrame for each. (The pull requested version uses the soundcloud orange, not the blue as depicted in my screenshot, I'm running a custom plugin that adds slightly different functionality which has been removed from the PR) however I can add a quick guide here if anyone wants to know how to change the play button colour.

Nodebb only accessible via IP address not domaincd ~ sudo apt-get install nginx cd /etc/nginx/sites-available sudo nano *something.com*
Paste in the server block that's in the docs, replace the relevant information, normally just server name.
Then type
ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/*something.com* /etc/nginx/sites-enabled
This will symlink it from sites-available, to enabled. Then run
sudo service nginx restart
Replace
*something.com*
with the URL you're going to useforumthatisgreat.com
as an example. Also go to config.json in your nodebb folder and change use port to : false -

YouTube maybe possibly buying Twitch for about $1billion.Not sure how I feel about this if it happens. On one side, it could open the door to more streamers and a better twitch app for the iPad, but on the other side, content ID matching may have to come into force due to it being a YouTube owned company, meaning in game audio = copyright.
Probably should have posted this on @psychobunny gaming forum. But know there's a few gamers here.

cpu usage 100% when logging (screencast)@eEight The way I did it was to create a custom show once widget with "Welcome to the new forum, if you already have an account, you will need to reset your password."
Quote me to see what that hyperlink looks like, just do the same on your site, your user enters the email they used, the emailer sends the reset email, they click it, enter a new password, done.
If your emailer is something like mandrill, you can export all your users information into a CSV file and send out an email that way. But do it in batches, and remove any email addresses that definitely won't go anywhere or be read. For each email that's undelivered, it drops your "can send per hour" limit down slightly. Also make sure you're allowed to send the emails, EU laws ban the sending of unsolicited email unless it's opt in, as do Canada now, but stricter.
EDIT: Here:
If you already have an account here, you will need to <a href="/reset">reset your password</a> before logging in for the first time. <br/><br/> <strong id="dismiss">Click to dismiss!</strong> <script> if (!localStorage.getItem('dismissible')) { $('#dismissible').removeClass('hide'); } $('#dismiss').on('click', function() { localStorage.setItem('dismissible', true); $('#dismissible').hide(); }); </script>
Then put this into the Container
<div class="panel panel-primary hide" id="dismissible"><div class="panel-heading">{title}</div><div class="panel-body">{body}</div></div>
Copy that into an HTML widget in your Admin Control Panel. You could probably change the strong dismiss for a button if you preferred, as long as it has the same ID.

Total noob here. Wondering if there is a plugin or a way that I can upload .doc and .pdf files.@DanaGriffin said:
As the title suggest, I am trying to allow my users to upload documents on the forum. Are there any plugins to do so, or is this something I will have to implement myself? Thanks for your patience.
You could allow local uploading and specify a file size, go to Settings > Post > Tick Allow Users to Upload Regular Files, then adjust the file size from the default 2mb to whatever you feel you need.
This will give you a new icon on the composer. I've just tested it with a pdf and it works fine.
