Fate of the universe on the line, How would you guys define decentralised? How would you define federated ?

I can highly recommend the following thread by @cwebber
It is a very deep, detailed analysis about the difference in infrastructure between the Fediverse and BlueSky.
The link is to the posts where the definitions of decentraliation and federation are given, but really, the whole thread is a great read.

@damon federated: a structure fundamentally built up by the joining together of (in some ways) equal groups/actors
decentralised - operations (and decisions about operations) are distributed, so they don’t lie in the hands of a single source or actor

@damon I dunno, but I've been playing “Slay the Princess” by Black Tabby Games and there's this lady in the game who keeps making heady philosophical arguments about decentralization. Sometimes when she talks to me, I feel like we're on Twitter and she's inviting me to join Mastodon.
It so happens that she also wants to end the universe. Funny coincidence.

@NoOnesRival @cwebber Trust me I did, it was good
-
@UlrikeHahn for decentralised how broad and or narrow is that scope?
-
@damon sorry, not sure I get your question, Damon. Could you rephrase?
