@oliphant I hate this argument on tarriffs.
Let's apply that same logic to other taxes. We have pretty high tax rates on cigarettes -- typically more than half of the final price are taxes. But the cigarette companies don't pay those taxes, the buyer does. So it's only hurting the buyer and not the producer, right? And aren't those buyers already being hurt enough by cigarettes without the government adding more on top of that? Clearly all taxes on cigarettes must be repealed!

@admin Yeah, this actually illustrates the point rather well, I think.
Insofar as taxes on cigarettes are paid by the purchaser.
Whether it hurts the seller or not, that's not really the point of the argument Trump is making.... his claim is basically that tariffs are paid by the seller.
