I know it's been said a zillion times already, but it will never cease to amaze me that a serious candidate for President of the United States is out there every day barfing up absolute gibberish like this

Three takeaways from former President Donald Trump’s Western Pennsylvania rally
Trump’s return to what is once again shaping up to be the most important swing state comes as polls show him slightly trailing Vice President Kamala Harris among Pennsylvania voters.

Trump's education on weapons appears to have been as thorough as his education on every other subject, because despite some erroneous early reports the weapon in the second assassination attempt was not an AK-47 at all. It was an SKS, a completely different Russian rifle that predates the AK (and later found popularity in Canada).
Here's everything we know about the apparent assassination attempt on Trump
The suspect "didn’t even get close to getting a round off," and never had a line of sight on Trump, authorities said. Ryan Wesley Routh is facing federal gun-related charges in the incident.

For reference, here are an SKS and an AK-47 for comparison.
(Both types of rifle were prolifically copied across the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War, so there are a billion variations of each floating around. But you can see the difference in the basic pattern.)

@jalefkowit at the risk of carrying water for the mashed-potato brain, there was a shocking amount of reporting that the would-be assassin's weapon was an "AK-47 style" rifle, whatever the hell that is supposed to mean.
So trash-tier reporting is at least partly responsible for the specific form of this word salad.

@SnoopJ I disagree. Trump's specific brag was how educated he has become in this stuff since the assassination attempt. If you want to brag about how educated you are, I expect you to know more than "I read the headlines on the day of and nothing else"

But, in this quote, Trump was talking not about the guy who fired shots at his rally, but about Venezuelan gangs, right? The gangs that he falsely claims are "taking over" Aurora, Colorado.
BTW, he apparently believes that AK-47s are so advanced and powerful that our military does not possess a weapon of similar effectiveness. This is after four years of commanding our military.

@barney @SnoopJ As always, it's hard to tell what the hell he's getting at because his mind slides effortlessly across facts like they're a non-stick pan.
I _think_ this particular case is a stream of consciousness: he starts talking about the false Venezuelan gangs, says the word "AK-47," remembers he heard that the guy who tried to kill him used one of those, and that gets him going on how he's an expert on those now because someone used one to take a shot at him. (Which they didn't, but, you know.)
Trying to parse Trump's statements isn't very rewarding, because none of his supporters actually care if he makes sense or not
