Thank you @baris for the swift response. I have no need for backwards compatibility in my theme, so I think I will hold off on bigger changes.

Many new features from the 1.7.x mainline branch - including hash load balancing method, backend SSL certificate verification, experimental thread pools support, proxy_request_buffering and more.
Grr, browser crashed. Seems like some nice updates. Not sure if there's anything NodeBB would benefit from.
Also noticed they released an Nginx Plus, that offers some really nice features for a hefty price tag.

I thought hash load balancing has been in nginx for awhile... hm
