Error when installing on osx

Just trying to get started by testing this out on my local machine, but when I do the command
npm install
I get this error:

EDIT: included npm http GET command right before the error occurs -
It looks like a problem with npm, and it's definitely what's causing the issue when I try to start up. Looking into it now...
