Error when installing on osx

Just trying to get started by testing this out on my local machine, but when I do the command

npm install

I get this error:

since those last ones were optional I went ahead and tried the setup, but I get this:

On a potentially unrelated note, am I supposed to have redis running during setup?

Yes, as some configs are written to the database during setup.

Not sure about the npm errors. @julian?

It looks like a problem with npm, and it's definitely what's causing the issue when I try to start up. Looking into it now...
