Offering a couple NodeBB instances for free

Hello, dear NodeBB community!

I admit: I love NodeBB. And I'd like to give something back to the community. Therefore I'm going to host a couple free instances of NodeBB with communities of up to 1K members for community members without the chance to pay for hosting or the ability to host it themselves. Of course: Entirely free of charge.

My servers are located in France at OVH and are **DDoS protected. **

@Netto-Hikari I have to say I'm kinda interested since I'm in France and my traffic is mostly from France. The only thing that is bugging me is that it's OVH (I didn't know they had Nodejs support) and I don't have a very good opinion of their services. Also I would feel kinda bad for not paying anything. I was planning to use Digital Ocean which seems to do the job and for a cheap price so yeah your offer is more than nice but I'm hesitating. Anyway thanks for this move it's very generous.

@esiao I've been with OVH for about a year now. They don't have "NodeJS support", I'm not using some kind of website hosting plan. I have a couple dedicated servers running at OVH (so I can practically run anything I want) and I never had any issues with them.

If you're still interested, I'd love to help out.

@Netto-Hikari I'll consider the offer. Dedicated servers is even more interesting because that mean possibility to add a website or something like that. Would you give full access control (ssh + ftp) or would like to keep some control over your servers (which would be natural).

@esiao Of course I would give FTP support. To be honest: I don't want to give anyone SSH access, but I'm always there if support is needed or an action is required for which the shell has to be used.

@Netto-Hikari Well I think the Shell is needed to install NodeBB, NodeBB plugins, keep it up-to-date ect. I don't think it's possible to do it from cpanel. But I you're right because the shell means possibility to destroy everything.

@esiao Installing and updating would be done by me. Installing plugins (that are not present inside the ACP search) via request by the user. If there's a better solution, please tell me.

@Netto-Hikari I don't really see a better solution. I think what you're offering is very interesting for people searching a free host for their NodeBB server. In my case I want to control what's going on and develop on my instance, test ect so I think that's not replying to my needs. But that's not a bad thing I think my use case is rarer and that you're offering something pretty decent. I don't think it will be hard to find some people interested.

No conflict from the NodeBB team, we encourage our community to go ahead and spread the word!

We have our own hosting service, of course, but why stomp on everybody when we can be friends?

Oh, there is one exception -- we discourage people from using the term "NodeBB" in their projects (with exception for plugin/theme packages, which are prefixed with nodebb-(plugin|theme)-). -- "nbb" is fine.

@Netto-Hikari Hi, i am looking to create a online plattform for the acceleration of spreading tecnical ideas and tecnical innovation. I found NodeBB recently and i think its perfectly suited for that. Is this offer still active? I would like to test my idea first before commiting to much.

(+However I want to make some extra functions and adapt it slightly. I guess you only offer help for hosting, the rest I have to do on my own?)
