I didn't watch that specific video, but you can definitely use a custom domain for NodeBB. Most people are using custom domains.

@PitaJ seems to work. Disabled the emoji-pack. Did a ./nodebb build after stopping nodebb. I was able to add a new emoji, then hit the 'build asset' button. Stopped nodebb again, did another ./nodebb build, went back to the emoji panel, no issues, no errors.
Thanks again for the help, sorry I wasn't able to find what went wrong.

Problem solved

Thank you everyone who responded.
I have tried everything I could think of, and when nothing worked, I decided to go over the setup, line by line, word by word and that's when I found it!
It was a typo in configuration of my nginx, i.e., my own mistake.
The following entries were wrong:
proxy_set_header X-Forward-For ... proxy_set_header X-Forward-Proto ...
They should be X-Forwarded-For and X-Forwarded-Proto, notice they were missing ed in the word forward !

It appears that rebuilding the forum + refreshing the page enabled access to the pages.
However, I still cant make any Search Plugin work on my forum properly, be it DB search, Elastic or Solr. I'm using a non-roman alphabet ☹

When i go in the menu the facebook button stopps working but if i reload the page at /hem it works at first reload.

Why? Do i need todo somthing special with like buttons?
