I still think that federated user lists would be cool. There’s a ton of hypothetical ways to solve the problem of "opt-in" consent for a federated public user list. I talked a bit ago about using some of the more interesting activity types (TentativeAccept, Offer, etc) to make it clear that it’s waiting for a response from the actor in question. Also having the actor store what lists it is officially part of (both the user list itself and the actors within it should be able to say that a given user is in fact on the list, and if they disagree just don’t display them in the list)

I think that the blocklists popular on bluesky can also be done, but there needs to be mechanisms in place to ensure they aren’t exploited. What do I mean? I feel like giving people access to modifying your blocked users without your knowledge is a terrible terrible idea. It should be that you "subscribe" to the list and every time there’s an UPDATE activity (or however people want to define that, I mean if it’s a collection of collectionpages or some cursed shit you have to consider UPDATE & ADD) the end user should be notified and given the option of adding the new changes (or in the case someone is removed, removing the user in question).

I also do think that misskey channels would be a lot cooler if they were federated. Allowing for us to essentially have "groups" where posts can go. Say I have a list of my tech friends and I post in that group, it only goes out to members of the group instead of everyone who follows me. Tons of things that fedi could very much have right now but there’s a lack of progress on.
