"Tim Walz calls out ‘damn lie’ that he’s in the pocket of labor unions," reported The Independent recently. What fascinates me about liberals who still claim representative democracy is the best and only system, is the fact that on one hand, allegedly professional politicians represent the working classes through being elected to government, but God forbid they represent the working classes who are organised collectively via unions. An incredible giveaway to what the state truly protects: power -- over the people. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/tim-walz-unions-labor-day-harris-b2606155.html #union #unions

Back when I was more of a democratic socialist, I rarely met an anarchist who cared to actually articulate what anarchism was, as though they enjoyed it being this tiny little club; cool and edgy. It took me years to actually find out for myself what it actually was, which is how folks like David Graeber explained it: believing human beings are capable of behaving in a reasonable fashion without having to be forced to. Tangible examples are non-hierarchical mutual aid, direct democracy where communities literally decide for themselves, cooperating rather than competing with other communities in a decentralised network, providing resources from those according to their ability to others according to their need, and so forth.

Conversely, the state concentrates power into a small group of professional politicians who are expected to represent us better than we could ever represent ourselves, which of course is utterly absurd, not least because - as Graeber put it - "Power corrupts and those who spend their entire lives seeking power are the very last people who should have it."
