#Democracy #BigTech #EU #Monopolies #Oligopolies: "Democracies should never allow businesses to grow so powerful that they can defy governments and courts. When companies reach this level of influence, they can distort public discourse, sway elections, evade taxes, and deepen societal divides — posing a direct threat to democracy. The concentration of power in the digital economy now undermines the vision of digital infrastructures that serve public needs and protect fundamental rights.
Europe is facing a turning point. There is a narrow and closing window to reclaim our autonomy, sovereignty, and freedom to innovate. As Europe slowly enacts its new “digital constitution” through regulations like the DSA, the AI Act, and the European Media Freedom Act, it must demonstrate the leadership to go further. This is about more than merely enforcing regulation, but taking the lead in creating independent, democratically governed digital infrastructures that uphold collective values.
This is our opportunity to demonstrate to the world that there is an alternative to Silicon Valley’s profit-driven Big Tech model and China’s Big State approach. Europe needs to build its own autonomous European digital governance model- a sort of Big Democracy."

"This vision of a free, innovative and democratic Europe needs bold investment in digital industrial policy, allowing us to build alternatives which counter the growing dominance of tech giants. Europe must move beyond surveillance-based, monopolistic business models that exploit personal information and data and instead create a digital public sphere that promotes values like privacy, pluralism, and freedom of expression."

Governments are supposed to be creatures of men and not the overlord. Governments are created.
Europeans generally are retarded and have been slaves of monarchs and socialists for every generation going back more than 2,000 years.

@JohnGritt: That's a very generic remark to make, don't you agree? Besides, Europe was were the anarchist movement was born, including participatory and direct democracy (Ancient Greece and modern Switzerland)...

@remixtures That is about all of the time on this break,, which I can yield to stupidity expressed in public in a fedi post.
Only citizens could participate in Anciet Greece. Much of the pop were slaves.
Crikey, stop believing your Marxist profs, learn Greek and read the works for yourself.

@JohnGritt: Yes, of course slaves weren't allowed to participate in the Agora. Bu real participatory democracy has been a common presence in many places throughout Europe since the beginning of the 20th Century - including contemporary Switzerland...

@remixtures One example fails to prove the rule for ALMOST ALL of Europe.
Do you know what Europeans are? They are the dregs too stupid and too weak to have made it to British Colonial America and the USA.
And everything Europeans have today, they can thank working class Americans for having paid for it all, either directly after WW2 or indirectly through imports from the 1970s and 1980s.
Europeans are lowlifes with much lower IQs (~98 avg) than Anglo-Saxon Americans (~110 avg).

@JohnGritt Sorry, you're definitely a troll.
First of all, most white Americans descend from Europeans - most often two to three generations ago.
Second, American "Democracy" is mostly a mix of Idiocracy with Plutocracy.
Third, Americans rely almost entirely on European manufacturing. Public metro trains are made by Siemens; most US urban houses are decorated with IKEA furniture; on any large west-east coast city you can find thousands of European-made cars, etc., etc.
