Is there a white label, "preconfigurable" AP client already?
-
@harce I'm building #Emissary, which is pretty close to what you're describing.
It's a full #ActivityPub server and CMS that lets you build custom applications using just HTML and JSON configs. https://emissary.dev
Right now, I'm building https://bandwagon.fm on Emissary, focused on musicians, and am planning to follow through with a custom apps for artists, blogs, event registrations, etc..
If you have bandwidth, I'd love to talk more about your ideas. I think Emissary could handle it.
-
@harce that's something we could potentially reconfigure reader.distributed.press for if y'all have a budget for building stuff.
-
@mauve I think a more conventional app, with a client account to really get these people onto fedi, would be optiomal here, but great to learn about your project!
Ill keep note for other projects! -
@benpate I know emissary and love the idea, planning to lunch a bandwagon instance for bands playing in a practice room we run with friends but here its the client side thats more of an issue.
Server side there's a lot of solutions, but client side there's no "zeroconf" ones where they just download an app and it works (or idk scan a qrcode/ click a link so the app gets configured). -
Sorry to misunderstand you.
I think I follow your idea now. Youβre looking for an app that could be installed on a phone that would instantly connect to the right server - kinda like how the FB app already knows how to connect.
That would be harder in a distributed network, but not impossible. Your QR code idea might be the best option.

(also, awesome that youβre checking out Bandwagon! Iβm very interested in getting some other servers running out there in the wild, so Iβm happy to help you with anything you need)
-
@harce Do you have a particular server you've got your eye on like Mastodon? It shouldn't be too much work to fork and add an "invite links" feature if there isn't one already. I'd advocate for using the web app instead of dealing with native too.
-
@benpate thank you! Ill keep note, but possibly the best help for me and others would be to pack emissary / bandwagon as a yunohost app; its far easier as a single stop solution of a band or a publishing house to get their online presence then setting up docker images, which make more sense for devops type aproach.
-
@harce Great suggestion. Thank you!
Iβm not too familiar with younohost- Iβll have to figure out how to to that.
There *is* a Docker config, so hopefully younohost works about like that. You can check out the Docker QuickStart at https://emissary.dev/docker -- if that helps you out
-
@benpate yeah im not my best in communicating clearly, sorry for that. Yunohost has a very different aproach from docker, which ive seen you provide a image for.
