This is traumatising each time, to the rejected or invisible children who get left out.

@KatyElphinstone But repeatedly re-traumatising kids who have been assigned into the excluded status is a big part of the whole reason of schools! :blobcatsad:

@KatyElphinstone and every occurrence is a feedback loop marking these children as undesirable in the eyes of the group, making it more likely they’ll be rejected next time.

Just watched this happen to my kiddo several times at an after school sports activity. My lil dude just standing around not knowing what to do with himself 🥲
Idk why so many adults are oblivious to how unpleasant this process can be??

@3TomatoesShort @KatyElphinstone I hated this part of school. I ended up with noone picking me for the team, and the teacher giving me a broken softball bat and told yo go and practice. I would disappear over the edge of the bank of the oval and make daisy chains

My personal theory is that no one who enjoyed PE lessons should be allowed to become a PE teacher - at least for a little while until these harmful ways of doing things disappear into history. They should be asking those of us who detested it what would have made it better.

@fabienmarry A process euphemistically called 'learning to socialise'.
