I keep getting the same questions about my solar panels - @solar - so I've given in and created an FAQ.

Let me know if you have any questions which aren't answered there and I'll add them.

@Edent What would you need from a water heater system (iBoost-like) for it to be useful? Thermostat thresholds so it pulls from the grid in winter, perhaps?
-
@Edent @solar Pricing - I might have included some national installers as a benchmark. Octopus, for example, have a reasonably decent reputation for doing a reasonable job at a reasonable price. I often send people considering installation there, if anything they'll get a benchmark for the price a local installer might ask.
Also worth mentioning that the prices tend to go downwards, so an install 4 years ago was likely more expensive than today.

Nothing. We hardly use any hot water in summer - a brief & cool shower, the occasional bath. We have an electric hot tap for ad hoc use.
If we move off gas for heating, it'll be to infrared heaters. -
@wishy I'm not touching pricing. As I explained, every install is different.
I'm not a shopping comparison service -
@Edent Do your data sets have DOIs?
-
@Pigsonthewing No. I can't afford to mint them, sadly.
-
@Edent thanks, v useful.
Ps. Re heat pump, some of the rule you’ve been given don’t ring true to me and the peeps that quoted or installed our HP., plenty of install in view from the street, and rule is within 1m of you property edge, not “8m from windows”.
Noise also much less than a wachine machine. Maybe the octopus pump was noisier than most? -
@fabienmarry
I'm just going by what the installer said - which JS corroborated by https://www.planningportal.co.uk/permission/common-projects/heat-pumps/planning-permission-air-source-heat-pump
