My flight out of Berlin was delayed yesterday and almost delayed further by the lady immediately behind me that refused to put up her window during take off. She kept putting it down when the flight attendant walked away and they eventually got into an exchange in loud, heated German. I was sure at one moment she would be ejected and was surprised she wasn't, but she eventually resigned to opening it and mumbling various incantations in German throughout the rest of takeoff.

@vwbusguy really hope you meant the blind and not the window

@sej7278 Yeah, that one. Can't do talk words so good with the jet lag.

@vwbusguy why does it need to be open during takeoff?

@purpleidea I am by no means a legal expert, but it's supposedly so that people inside the plane can observe any obstacles, vehicles, etc outside of the plane during taxi and takeoff, presumably to help with an investigation in case of an accident.

@vwbusguy I expect if there is something that happens outside the window that only I would see, the pilot is not going to have a chance to react in time. And if I try to run up there and tell them then it's not going well for me.

@purpleidea Sure, and I'm also dubious about the need to remove my belt and shoes at the TSA line or to put my phone in airplane mode, but it's also not a hill I'm going to die on.
