Do you ever think about how weird it is that you can hear my voice in your head as you read my voice as you read this?
-
@mick fun fact: getting rid of that voice is how you speed read
-
And you’re seeing this on the Internet.
I’ll skip electricity and all of the bits and pieces of technology that went into making this work, but let’s say 50-ish years.
On The Web, which is. ~35 years old.
-
And, at the moment, you’re reading these words on an Activitypub platform - probably Mastodon but maybe something else.
That’s from just 6 years ago! 6!
-
Actually, I hear my voice, not yours. Am I broken?
-
Weird, right?
-
@TruthSandwich nah, that’s how it works.
-
@pl I have played with this and not had significant success, but I believe it.
-
@TruthSandwich if you’re like me the voice you hear is mine, but corresponds with the perception I have of who you are. Which is like extra weird.
-
@mick
So I am not the only one who reads each post in a unique "voice" for each person. That is good to know.If that's weird, it is a good weird,.....I think....
-
Anyhow, thanks for letting me into your head, and thanks for being in mine.
This is all pretty cool and I’m glad to be “here” with you.
-
@Snowshadow I think that’s how we work?
We put together everything we know based on every experience we’ve had up to now and make a projection about what’s going to happen next and what I hear from your words is somewhere in between my experience and your intention.
Weird!
-
@Snowshadow definitely good weird.
-
@mick
Yes, a good weird.It makes it more interesting, for sure.
Perhaps that is why some people are disappointed when they finally meet IRL....their expectations are not met.The mind is weird.
-
@Snowshadow amen!
