In Search of Foundational FLOSS Freedom(s)
A few days ago, a vulnerability in xz-utils named CVE-2024-3094 was discovered, and since then the open source community as well as security pundits...

It'd be interesting to know what other folk here think could be done by the state to help support FLOSS.

IMHO it was also good to highlight in that room the excellent role of various NGI programmes and @nlnet , and I'm happy that @onepict from @librecast lent support to that.
Sometimes it's just about repeating an opinion often enough in the right place.

@interpeer @nlnet @APC as part of @NGIZero have been publishing stories from NGI Zero recipients building the #NextGenerationInternet, we need to be looking at Digital Sovereignity to give communities other options to organise on, other than what Corporations and VCs choose to invest in.

@interpeer @nlnet @NGIZero historically the EU and the UK occasionally ask the question about why aren't there many Unicorns in Europe.
That question was answered in the recent Draghi report. The start-ups leave.
"The report highlighted how 30% of EU startup businesses that had grown to be valued at more than €1bn – known as unicorns – had moved abroad, and mostly to list on stock markets in the US."

@interpeer @nlnet So chasing VC investment and aiming for companies that create and benefit billionaires aren't the answer.
Aiming for large companies to settle in the EU means only the large cities benefit.
The investment needs to be spread out.
Not all of the grassroots are in the cities. We're spread out across Europe and beyond.
Bang for buck we're an efficient investment and we feel a responsibility to the EU and it's residents and citizens.
Corporations don't.
Invest in people.
