Long Covid rates nearly DOUBLE in people who were already disabled.
This is why we beg you to care about safe spaces. Beg disability orgs to implement clean air and masking.
We’ve been shut out of society. We’re much higher risk. We deserve inclusion.
Disabled people don’t have the luxury of living in denial about Covid. We can’t pretend it’s over. We can’t “go back to normal.”
Our lives are on the line - and no one cares. Everyone is convinced it won’t happen to them - so they throw us to the wayside in favour of “normal.”

I've been wondering about why this happens. Is it because disabled people have fewer bodily and/or mental resources (depending on the nature of the stability), and less margin to absorb any further disability that #LongCovid may cause? Is it because disabled people are more likely to be at the mercy of negligent carers who don't take the necessary precautions, and so they're more prone to repeat infections?
The article and the linked press release talk about the difficulty that disabled people have in getting vaccines and healthcare in general. That's surely a problem we ought to be able to solve if we had the will?

@CppGuy I’ve been wondering too. Could it be linked to inflammation? Many disabilities have increased inflammation - though that certainly wouldn’t explain all of it.
I would assume socioeconomic factors and access to healthcare play a role too - as disabled people are more likely to be living below the poverty line. Repeat infections would also be a significant factor as we’re often forced into high risk medical settings more than non disabled?

@broadwaybabyto @CppGuy Having had auto immune issues in the past, I think it's very much related to inflammation.
Every flare up is a huge degree of worse now.
Like I had very mild hayfever, post COVID it pretty much knocks me out. Plus there's all the other parts that kick off now.
