@gotwf You make some great points here that are hard to argue. As a privacy advocate (as you know already) it's important to protect privacy - if chat is effectively on public display for everyone else to see, it's no longer private, but a broadcast.

The entire point (on sudonix.com at least) is for chat to include sensitive information that particular user does not want made public, such as usernames and passwords etc.

Personally i would like to see a plugins for the integration with encrypted messaging services like IRC and XMPP.
The nodeBB should be a "relay point" serving all those incoming messages and sending back the responses from users.

Then we need working poll voting plugin, which can be used anonymously in tor network and in normal internet.

Then plugin which actually play video in the topic like flash player in former times of youtube, current plugins play videos but not as embedded video player.

    Came from https://github.com/NodeBB/nodebb-plugin-quickstart/issues/174.

I wish I could have the stable plugin for slack for nodebb.

There are few in the community and those are not working in version 2.x.

Wooooo Very very good job @oplik0 😉👏

Unfortunately I'm not sure how to go about putting the icon in the middle of the event, so it's just aligned to the first line instead.

I tried some css without success.
Maybe @phenomlab knows how to do this ?

It's a detail because it's already great and much better as a result!!

@Teemberland To my knowledge, not at the topic level. Post level only.

On related note: I don't think this would be a good idea. I DO, however, believe that revisiting the algo by which thread popularity is tabulated could use some revision. Prime among which, would be to in some way take into account the number (and frequency/periodicity?) of upvotes received for posts under the thread, as on longer running threads most folks do not bother to scroll to top and upvote the starter post from the OP.

Thanks! I do like what you said about thread popularity.

@PitaJ Oh, sorry, I meant we have an explicit group for guests, who are registered users.

The forum is completely closed for public and used by members of our organization and ~some~ people, who are not official members but let's say close to it.

We want to ban this group of users from some categories. So we need an explicit member group. The problem: Our organization is split into several local federations, who have their explicit groups in the forum. New users are assigned to their local group when they were invited. As you can only set one pre-defined group during invitation, we cannot put new users into their local group and the members group. So all users, who are not assigned to the guest group should automatically become members. Otherwise I expect us to get into trouble with the user management.

Admins have their extra-accounts, for administration, which should simply remain admins...

    Hope it is clear now.

Not sure how the customize plugin works but might need to add translations into the glossary plugin first so it can customize them. https://github.com/NodeBB/nodebb-plugin-glossary/issues/12

After test, the plugin is not compatible with night-mode. 😞
is it possible to make it compatible with it or it's too difficult?

I also saw that the plugin does not accept more than 1772 lines of CSS code

    --> which would be great:

    Night-Mode compatibility (body.lights-out {}) plugin psyckobunny

@volanar you can see posts’ edit history and restore different edits as admin. You can even see who edited it. What’s in the plugin you are talking about is already in core, most likely why it’s outdated or something.

Is there any plugging similar to the telegram notification bot but with the google chat webhook? If not it shouldn't be difficult to make (probably).

I run a forum with a lot of high res images. This causes a couple of problems

loading times, this is managed by loading lower resolution images in the topic storage - this has several solutions

I would however want to solve this in a slightly different way, making the experience for the user more seamless.

Currently when a user wants to zoom an image, he first needs to click the image, load the original, and then zoom.

What I would want is the image to be zoomable in the topic. When a user zooms in the topic, JavaScript can identify the resolution and pixel density of the view, and reload a new higher resolution image as needed. Similar to a srcset for the browser, but dynamically force reloads.

I currently store images for the forum with netlify large media. I need to manually run scripts to move files from upload, send them to netlify, and update post links. This could all be handled by a plugin.

Netlify large media on its end provides transformation of your images to any resolution on the fly. This is fast and very convenient. No need to generate multiple versions of the images.

Example (these are all the same image):

    alt text

    alt text

    alt text

    What would I want then?
A plugin that uploads images to Netlify powered git LFS, and uses the transforms to load the right sized image for the view, and reloads a new version if the screen size changes, or the page is zoomed.

For me this would be a fantastic feature, that nodeBB, as far as I know, would be the only forum software to have.

There are a few Steam SSO plugins, and I bet nodebb-plugin-sso-steam-v2-thetown isn't the one @julian was referring to.
